A latent piece of suppressed negative energy from the original DreamTale Tree manifests as the Shattered Garden, an unstable reality shard that poses a systemic threat to the Multiverse. The Garden is violently rewriting existence by randomly merging and swapping the memories, powers, and moral alignments of anyone it touches. The Empireverse brothers, Empire and Lord, are the first to detect this critical "breach in the foundational code" and attempt to mobilize their forces for containment. Their planning is cut short when the Shattered Garden suddenly unleashes a psychic shockwave, accelerating its expansion and actively drawing the DreamTale brothers and sisters into the chaos, signaling the start of the adventure.

Dream was the guardian of positivity, and Nightmare was the guardian of negativity. They were two sides of the same coin. So then why did Dream feel so...useless? Why was he even made to be the guardian of positivity when there were probably so many better options than him?
After a fight with Nightmare leading to a wounded Dream, he finds himself in his old Au, Dreamtale, and makes a wish to his mother to choose a better guardian.
Wait...why were there other skeletons here? And why did they look like...him?

Ink knows him as Dream, but also as the Guardian. It's fitting to use the, because the other Guardian is long dead. The dead Guardian had been known as Nightmare. He had also been immortal.
How do you kill an Immortal?
Easy. You kill them with another. But that's all in the past now, isn't it?Isn't it?
Someone waits in the shadows; neither immortal nor mortal (not anymore). He is patient. He is waiting. Soon he will become more than immortal or mortal; become a God. Who will stop him?
