In this AU the Legend of Korra story unfolded in a different way. While still in the White Lotus compound Korra was forced to stop Unalaq's plan but her choice to leave the Spirit Portals opened send ripples throughout the world. Discontent at the current situation is causing more and more people to join the clandestine Equalist movement. With Korra deciding to stop hiding and come to Republic City, what welcome will await her?

Season 2 of Korra took place before Season 1, though it probably proceeded in a different way. Harmonic Convergence happened so new Airbenders, yey. Korra finally comes to Republic City among major unrest related to the Spirit Portals being open, the emergence of spirits and Spirit Vines. And Asami is an Equalist. And a new Airbender. But she doesn't know the last part. Yet.

While he knows that his loyalty lies with the Avatar, he is scared the others will not believe him if he reveals his real identity. He is also scared of damaging his newfound relationship with Sokka.
However, Azula might not leave him a choice.

Once, long in the past, perhaps she’d watch her worthless brother get branded by her father in abject fear and horror. She might’ve thrown up or even stood her ground as she challenged the Fire Lord to an Agni Kai. Maybe she would’ve run away with Zuko and her pathetic tea-loving uncle, run away to Ba Sing Se or Gaoling. Once, long in the past, she loved Zuko. Of course, that was neither here nor there. After all, she now lived in the present and to reminisce on such trivial matters was hardly something worthy of the daughter of Phoenix King Ozai. Like a phoenix she allowed herself to fall to blaze brightly tomorrow. But a common bird cannot survive a flame. Her worst sin was her arrogance and loyalty, and she’d die in an inferno of her own doing to repent.

Zuko doesn't know what would have happened if he'd stayed. Maybe his father would have humiliated him further maybe he would have changed his mind (unlikely), but whatever choice he would have made Zuko made it for him. A person can only take so much before they break after all and waking up alone and in pain was the final straw for the 13 year old boy. He's lucky he ended up where he did.
3 years after the Agni Kai that left him blind and deaf on the left side of his face Zuko lives as the adopted nephew of a small town's healer. The villagers have long stopped caring about the fire dancing over his finger tips since he's proved he only uses it to brew their medicine.
Lee has no desire to be dragged back into his father's war, but what can he do when he's the only firebender in the Earth Kingdom that the avatar he was once tasked with hunting down can hope to learn from? -

This story follows Zuko as he prepares for the show at the end of the semester, while adjusting to his new life away from Ozai, dealing with ghosts of his past, and navigating new situations with the support of his uncle and his new friends.
