Summary
Humans move in packs. They are social creatures, with the exception of the few loners who roam the world with no ties. No home to return to, no one to call family, no sense of belonging, but that’s the way L likes it. There were people he considered allies, but L soon discovered that no matter what happened, the only person he could ever truly trust was himself. Even one so uniquely devoted to him, and only him, could not fulfil the needs of the world’s greatest detective.
The first time Kira killed, something fell just shy of him. A bitterly familiar sensation; far enough from him that he couldn’t reach it, but close enough that if he shifted just the right way, his fingers would brush its rough exterior.

Summary
Light's had just about enough of L: depressed, unproductive, and clinging to the theory Light's Kira even though it keeps him behind the whole investigative team. After they tussle over L dragging his feet, Light decides to get "hands-on" and motivate the detective to finally let go of his suspicions. Little does he know what feelings his actions will inspire - in L and himself.

Inside, the Lindt chocolates have all been removed. In their place are the absolute ugliest handmade chocolates Light has seen in his entire life. They are misshapen and artlessly decorated; one has an almond pressed into it, sticking out at a bizarre angle; three have pink drizzle dropped in clumps all over them. One was probably meant to be shaped into a heart but kind of looks like testicles. The rest have been rolled somewhat randomly in chocolate sprinkles.
Involuntarily, Light can feel his eyes prickling. He swallows, then looks up.

Someone overly focused. Never distracted, not honestly. Fishing for any scrap of evidence and dissecting it before devouring it with a gaze so all-consuming and everlasting he might as well be perpetually unblinking.
