Summary
Gigi closed her Bible, holding it close to her chest. She hadn’t been this close to him since that night in his bedroom. Sometimes her mind wanders to the night, when she denied his kiss. When she was alone in some abandoned building somewhere, wishing for any sort of human contact, she replayed that moment over and over in her mind. How different would things have changed, if she wasn’t such a fucking idiot? She hated the way he looked at her with his baby blues, like she would do anything but break his heart. She had to leave the vault behind, and that meant leaving him behind.
His hands fell to a lock of hair that fell out of her bun. Butch rolled the strand in between his fingers, trying to delay the inevitable. She’d go back to the surface, get swallowed up by the wasteland, change more than she’d been changed already. He’d never see her again, and that made his stomach burn and twist; it made him want to throw up on his polished boots. Somewhere along the line, Butch realized he’d gladly fall on his knees and beg for her to stay to keep her from walking out the vault door. But he doubted she’d want that—she’d probably laugh, kick him to the curb. She didn’t like him, not like that.

Staggering toward the counter, Charon's towering frame cast a shadow over Blaire.
“I still own your contract – I am still your employer.” Ahzrukhal sneered, but his jittery hands shook with anticipation of the promised Med-X. “I order you to protect Blaire with your life. Follow her until your mission ends. You return to me the moment she arrives safely at her destination.”
Charon choked.
“As you wish.”
Looking down at the candy-floss of her hair, he felt his gut clench.

**Twist on Charon's contract. Blaire does not acquire Charon's company the traditional way, but rather through a loophole. Because of this, Charon is obligated to honor his employer's deal and ensure Blaire arrives at her chosen destination. Along the way, Charon begins to remember what it feels like to make his own decisions; what it feels like to be free. He even begins to remember how intoxicating the feeling of trust is.
But Ahzrukhal had made one fatal error: he never asked her what her destination was.

It's not fair, and it hurts, but Mags will soon learn that is the way of the Wasteland, and lullabies of a world gone and a nearly 7ft tall ghoul are the only things keeping her, and the Wasteland, from coming apart at the seams...
___She comes into the world as the rest- screaming, bloody, and with each passing second, becoming less and less human as the radiation of the new world sticks to her coated skin. She cries, not because her mother begins hemorrhaging, or her last words are her name, and then her father's, but because that is all she knows how to do. It is a sick, twisted preparation for the life to come.
