Wylan went into the meeting with a new family and came out alone. Again. But it’s nothing he couldn’t handle right? He lived his life after his mother died alone so it won’t be hard. As long as Van Eck and the crows can just leave him alone after being the ones to do this.
The crows find out about Wylans father and things are assumed and guilt and shame are felt by all.

Ballister gasped for breath as he slammed his shoulder against the wall while rounding the corner. He had been running, faster than he ever has before, and as he deliriously made it up the stairs of the apartment building while holding his right shoulder, ignoring the calls for him to stop behind him as he finally made it to the 6th floor.
“Ambrosius! Nimona!” He yelled as he ran down the halls, running toward where his family’s apartment was.
He paused when he looked down the corridor, horror grasping him as he saw every single one of the doors open, and... and there were people... all over the place...
What was left of them, at least. The whole of the walls and floors looked like something...
Something straight out of a horror scene...
But this was exactly what this was, wasn’t it?
That’s what this felt like.

Ace was wanted all over Ketterdam, as an outlaw. A thief amongst merchants and barrel bosses; and an excellent one at that. No one knew her face but her name was like a scream in the streets; everyone turned her way.
Ace was also wanted by Dirtyhands, but for entirely other reasons. The Bastard of the Barrel didn't want her dead or alive, or for some measly reward (that had no right to be so low). He wanted her for her skills, because Ace was the Thief of Ketterdam, and the Ice Court was impossible to break into.
Ace would never turn down 30 million kruge, especially if it came at a cost—prize—of an impossible heist.

Wylan, when he is there, is next to Jesper and pays attention to the conversation, interjecting from time to time with overly shrewd comments.Matthias takes an antidepressant pill and eats a little - when he feels well, something very sugary, to remind himself that food is not a merit or a punishment. He drinks some water, breathes. Usually, Nina's hand finds his.

To Jesper’s surprise, Wylan laughs at that– a real laugh that sparks delightfully in his eyes. “I wish it were that simple.”

On a job driving across the country to make a (quite illegal) delivery for Kaz, Jesper picks up a hitchhiking stranger on a whim.
He soon discovers that he's not the only one running from his problems; Wylan is also running, and is desperate enough to ask Jesper for help locating someone he needs to find, who may or may not be the reason behind a mess Wylan has found himself in.
Jesper agrees, and the two of them set out on an impromptu road trip. Because what could go wrong? (Spoiler alert: it's never that easy).
