When Primarch Victus offers her a job overseeing a new Spectre training program on Palaven, Shepard accepts immediately. What she isn't prepared for is to be working with Garrus Vakarian again.
Now she's trying to pick up the pieces of everything she destroyed in her wake.

Summary
The Normandy crew have been stranded on a planet for a few months as they work to repair their ship. After fixing the comms link, the crew are told that the Commander is in fact alive, and has been rallying support to get the crew found ASAP. With the messaging system back up, everything in their outboxes get sent to Shepard on Earth, and they receive everything she's sent them in the four-month period that they've been apart.
The first and last chapters are the narrative, the rest are the string of messages that were sent during the time they were apart. Some angst, but mostly on the lighter side. Some canon divergence here, in that I add some details/events which could feasibly have happened but were not explicitly mentioned or part of the game.

The combat drone given to engineer Evangeline Shepard is a sophisticated piece of equipment, and there aren't a lot of safeguards isolating it from other systems in Shepard's omni-tool or within Normandy's servers. First it starts interfacing with Legion, then it accesses her translator apps.
When Shepard's combat drone starts on the same journey the geth took centuries ago and EDI took just a couple of years previously, Evangeline Shepard decides to run an experiment . . . and help it instead of immediately defaulting to a preemptive strike.
ME2/ME3 continuity, mixed media poetry, prose, dialogue, and experimental technique, with multiple POVs. Different universe from my Disaster Zone/Sometimes Grace stories, and the Shepard/Garrus and Joker/EDI pairings are relevant but also background and tangential.

Ashley played her role in the Alliance, that was all she knew how to do, but after his death, she was grounded. Miranda ran until there was nowhere else left to go, she was finally freed, but after his death, she was lost. Jack fought for her kids, teaching as Grissom's and trying her hardest to be someone to look up to, but after his death, all she wanted to do was maim and kill just to feel something.
The death of Commander Damien Shepard of the Alliance Forces created a ripple effect amongst the majority of the Traverse. There were fellow soldiers that mourned his loss, enemies of the Alliance that rejoiced in the fallen warrior, and then, there were three women- all caught up and in love with the man. They loved him, all at different times and then all at once. But he was gone and there was nothing Ashley, Miranda, or Jack could do to stop it.
Mourning in different ways, missing aspects about him the others may not have known were there. They all swore off love, fighting the overwhelming urge to fade into nothingness as even the strongest-willed of the three failed to see the importance of life without him.
He was their love.
Now, all that is left of those women is The Unfillable Void.
