“So have you, Jayce.” The Herald’s eyes, still as a calm sea, push into Jayce’s as if seeing through him. Observing. His lips shift into a slight approximation of a smile, welcoming and open. “You look afraid. Is something wrong?”
“You already know. You’re not him anymore.” The words are spit out like poison, harsh with a history only known to Jayce.
“Nonetheless, I appreciate you accepting my invitation. I was worried you would let fear cloud your judgment.” Viktor sighs gently, ignoring the other man’s words.

“Don’t give me that look,” Jinx says abruptly, and Vi nearly startles— but Jinx is still looking at the kid, Isha, all but turned away from Vi herself. “Did I teach you how to be greedy?”
Isha frowns, and she peeks around Jinx’s frame to peer at Vi. For a moment, Vi stares almost stupidly at a pair of wide brown eyes, before the girl draws her lips and turns back to Jinx, gesturing vaguely in Vi’s direction.
“Oh, is that so?” Jinx snorts, shaking her head with a wrinkle of her nose so familiar Vi exhales sharply to keep herself quiet. “Traitor. Fine, fine, but get me one too, okay?”
Isha smiles, and she stands clumsily, tipping her hat with shy eyes at Vi before she darts off, easily disappearing in the chaos of the commune.
