Arthur gets hurt in the fight, and Merlin—instead of acting like a proper servant to the king—shuts down all of Arthur’s protests and makes them share a horse so that Arthur can rest. Now, for the remainder of their way home, Arthur is seated behind Merlin in the saddle and given nothing but time to contemplate the longing in his heart.
The warmth that Merlin offers in the crisp air—Arthur’s arms wrapped around Merlin’s middle, his chin on Merlin’s shoulder—might just finally make him act on his feelings.
