Mike was silent for a long time, so long Will thought he wasn’t going to answer at all. “I just… I don’t know. How can I move on if I don’t know for sure? I can’t stop thinking that if she is out there, if I was right, and I don’t even try to find her, then maybe I really didn’t deserve her.”
A year after graduation, Mike decides to start a search for El and asks Will to come with him. Their friendship hasn't been the same since Will came out and Eleven disappeared, so Will agrees, kicking off a complicated journey that brings them back together. Will is in college, trying to move on, and Mike is idling in Hawkins, torn between his past with El and his confusing feelings for Will. As the search brings them closer than either ever imagined, Will and Mike grapple with first loves, moving on, and growing up together.

Things have been weird between Will and Mike ever since he moved back to Hawkins and everything is different, Mike thinks Will hates him, Will is cold towards him in order to keep his heart safe, the Byers are living in a rental house, Joyce is behind bills and payments, it is freezing in Hawkins, the coldest winter yet, and venca is on the move, and refuses to leave Will alone till he gets what he wants, he uses Will as a vessel, Mike and Will become friends again but then things keep getting weirder and weirder, till Mike accidentally walks in on Will coming out to El which leaves him shaken with many questions, questioning their entire friendship with each other.
