Set in the same universe as Bound To This Struggle (With Mighty Sword and Flame). This is another possible way things could have gone if the past was ever so slightly different and the actions taken by our protagonists differed as a result.

There that six foot goddess is, standing by the line of the goal, the game had paused while Scorpia was off of the pitch, so she was standing still but signing with someone who was standing at the sidelines beside the goal. She lifts the hem of the bottom of her shirt, revealing toned abdominal muscles and smooth soft looking skin as she does so. She uses the fabric to wipe her brow of sweat, giving Catra a generous view of her abs and the grey sports bra she was wearing.
Catra’s breathing picks up so much she thinks she might die.

Finally, they were given a chance to get the band back together for one show and on the way back, they're being reminded of why they broke up as they settle down for a night at a campground. Whoever the hell Catra’s soulmate was, they seemed to get banged up a lot. She was always waking up with random marks. For the first few years, it was the normal dings that a kid gets. In her teens, the bruises got bigger, like they were into karate or football or some other kind of contact sport. Over the last couple of years though, Catra had started to receive marks in the middle of the night. At first, she thought her soulmate was a cop (which, gross cause ACAB). Maybe a burglar? She’d hoped maybe they were a certain firefighter she knew. Last night confirmed it though.
Catra, who never had anything normal happen to her, was matched with a godsdamn 8-foot tall glowing monster. How fitting.
All she ever wanted was to hide in the background and be medium-happy. That wasn’t a lot to ask! Now she knew she was bound – completely, cosmically, irrevocably – to something weird and supernatural.
Catra was, quite honestly, scared shitless.

Summary

Catra, an employee at Horde LLC, is on a mission to buy up properties in the city of Etheria to convert to luxury condos. Adora has recently moved back to Etheria to help her friend Glimmer with her nonprofit organization, Bright Moon, which renovates old buildings to create resource centers for the community.
After a close-matched scrimmage between Catra's and Adora's roller derby teams, their paths keep unexpectedly crossing. Will corporate Horde succeed in gentrifying all the lower-income neighborhoods in Etheria, or will Adora be able to protect the interests of the local communities? Which team will come out on top when their personal battles transition onto the track?

Summary
What comes after the agony of your life falling apart in front of your very eyes? Is it a world of fire and sickness if you’re deemed bad enough, like Shadow Weaver always told them? And if it was, would she be sent there? She tried to think back on her life in those few seconds she had left. Was there anything she had done to deserve an afterlife of torture? She hadn’t killed anyone or cheated or anything like that. She hadn’t asked for the cards she’d been dealt in life, so really it wasn’t her fault for fighting her former best friend. So, no. Catra did not believe she belonged in Hell. But that didn’t necessarily mean she’d end up in Heaven with streets of gold and flower petals all around her.
Taking a final glance down, Catra saw she was almost on the ground. Her time had come, she was about to die.

She finally had Adora. She-Ra’s sword. Adora made it almost too easy for Catra to capture her and return her to the Fright Zone. To Lord Hordak. Catra’s plans were finally being set into motion.
At least until Hordak revealed plans of his own. Ones that involved Adora…She-Ra.
And not Catra.
This wasn’t what Catra had wanted. She never wanted Adora to forget her, to be wiped from her memories completely. But she was no match for Hordak and the entire Horde army on her own. She was no match for She-Ra.
Catra would soon find herself looking for help in the one place she thought she hated most.

Adora’s bent her head forward to press against her desk, feeling more hopeless than ever. Glimmer was silent—for once—on the other end of the line. She picked up one of her many fountain pens and twirled it around her fingers.
“Honestly, Adora I never thought you two would be apart for this long either.” Glimmer’s voice was filled not only with sadness but with something worse—doubt.
“You don’t think we are going to stay together, do you? Or I guess—get back together.” Adora asked her closest friend. The silence was deafening.

Adora and Catra, childhood friends and college sweethearts, have been separated for a year and are on the verge of divorce. Although they manage to co-parent their eight-year-old Finn, it seems that all hope is lost for their marriage. Adora and Catra try to navigate their separation and recover at least part of what they lost.
