Summary
When Judd Ryder showed up at work on Tuesday he made the reasonable, assumption that it would be like every other shift. Maybe a call from a pile-up on the highway. Maybe a rouge bonfire. Worse case, a house fire. Every once in a while something more drastic, more dangerous, would find its way into their non-existent schedule, but that happened less often than some might think. What he wasn't expecting was for a nervous, 16-year-old, boy to show up at the station claiming to be his son.
Along with the arrival of the new young face, a series of bodies are discovered around Austin, leading Carlos to an unlikely source that will make him question everything he's ever known.

Liam’s pulse kicked up. His skin felt too warm, too tight, like the air around him had thickened. He hated how exposed he felt under Theo’s gaze, like the man was reading him with ease, pulling apart things Liam didn’t want anyone touching.
Theo’s smirk returned, slow and knowing.
“Relax,” he said softly. “I’m not here to bite.”
A beat.
“Not unless you want me to.”
Slowly, a knowing smile spread across Theo’s lips, deliberate, confident, inviting.
“Tell me,” he said softly, voice thick with challenge and something dangerously intimate, “when was the last time someone let you be exactly who you are… without trying to fix you?” -

Isaac and Liam's father had been abusing them since their mother's death 10 years ago. Isaac was just 7, and Liam had only just turned 6. Although they've wanted to speak out against him for years they feared whether they'd be believed, seeing as their father is a well-known, and beloved, member of the community, and, as luck would have it, a high-ranking member of their town's police force.
Isaac has been working since he was 14, earning money to eventually afford to buy or rent a shitty apartment literally anywhere but here. Liam did the same when he was finally old enough. With their father leaving on an out-of-state trip for a week, they've been gifted with the perfect opportunity. To jump state lines and find a small place in the isolated, seemingly quiet, town of Beacon Hills. But with the start of a new school year, one that's already started off rocky seeing as they have no real explanation for why their parents can't come to the school to finalize things, Liam's strange new 'friend,' and the interesting infatuation a certain lacrosse captain seems to have with Isaac, quiet is definitely not an option.
