Summary
The Knights of Camelot love Merlin almost as much as Arthur does, until the Lamia weaves her way into their minds. The Knights don't understand at first why Merlin isn't talking, and it scares them.
Gwaine didn't fall to the Lamia, and Merlin begs him and Gwen not to say anything.
But the loyalty of friendship sometimes requires it, especially when the most worried and confused person in the mix is the King himself, who has a well-known soft spot for his "idiot servant". -

It was over. Arthur was here. The Lamia was slain. Gwen was alright. The knights would be back to normal. It was over.
Able to relax for the first time in days, he let his knees buckle and his back slide down the wall. He hit the ground, and his vision turned to mist.
Merlin didn't make it out of his encounter with the Lamia unscathed, or so Arthur thinks when he slays the beast and finds Merlin slumped against the wall and bleeding. When he learns the true source of Merlin's injuries he is furious. He does his best to push that anger away though, because being there for Merlin matters far more right now.

That’s why he was reminding himself magic can be beautiful. It can be something of life, of love, of creation.
He made flowers. They sit arranged before him. Yellow acacias, amaranth bulbs, bell flowers, yellow tulips, fennel, almond flowers, morning glories, and even sprigs of mint for decoration.

Merlin looked Leon in the eyes, those eyes. . .those stormy grey eyes. Those stormy grey eyes that flashed with this unmistakable look of betrayal, hurt, and anger.
It was a look that haunted Merlin in his sleep, when he would wake up covered in sweat, tears streaming down his face. It was a different person each night, someone new to find out his inner demons, and confront him.
Those dreams usually end with him burning at the pyre.

Merlin can't stand his and the other knights' presence anymore, and, recalling his violent behavior, Leon can't blame him. But he has no intention of losing Merlin to distrust or letting his fellow knights stew in self-hate. The damage must be repaired, for the sake of them all.
