Promotion to an MR-P was going to be what gave him a shot at freedom. A shot at payback. That's what it was supposed to be.
Instead he let out a pained gasp—if only because nobody would be around to hear him—and laid in the vent with arms wrapped around his stomach and pelvis.
Better living conditions of all things might have brought on complications to his plans.
