But someone cared or at least pitied the poor Hamato's because instead of fading away they were reborn again. They had a fresh start, a second chance to live their lives without anyone threatening their way of life.

The turtle exterior has always been just that – a skin and nothing more. To April, underneath they were just hormonal, slightly feral teenagers who has an odd thirst for crime fighting in the middle of the night.
But, other times, April is sharply reminded of their reptilian genes. These times, she is convinced that the boys are just overgrown turtles sitting in the sewers who just so happen to enjoy crime fighting in the evenings.
In these situations, when their turtle origins truly take the limelight, April still can’t decide whether she finds it adorable or (most of the time in Donnie’s case) slightly terrifying.”~
April has always been aware that her honorary brothers were turtles, but only truly remembers this when they each display their own turtle habits that link close to their original species.
TLDR: Each time April sees each of the boys display a turtle instinct/behaviour and how she deals with it.

The title, the fiefdom, and the eventual political power are his to inherit by birthright. His father has raised him well as both a warrior on the battlefield, and on the dance floor. Leo's world is glittering ballrooms and garden parties and only making friends with just the right people. It's all one incredibly complicated game that he plays all for the sake of his father. But just as Leo thinks he's mastered the rules of the game, the sudden appearance of his apparent "brothers" puts his inheritance, and everything Leo's ever believed in, into question.

The Hamato's grew older, all living in their own homes and their own lives out of the sewers now. Donatello married the love of his life, April O'Neil, and was a free lance inventor while still being a hero of New York. But something was missing, something him and April had rarely ever talked about. Kids. Kids were something but they wanted to wait for the right time, the right moment.
Maybe there isn't any right moment, but there definitely is a moment when the tree grows without prompting.
