Adam startled awake where he lay beside Ronan in their bed. He squinted into the dark of their room, only a small sliver of light coming from the opening of their door. He let his eyes adjust as he reached for his glasses, slipping them onto his face once he did.
With his eyes adjusted to the dark and his vision no longer blurry, Adam’s gaze met the sight of his son cowering in the doorway, his favorite stuffed owl hugged tight to his chest. Adam’s brow furrowed as he frowned, his heart squeezing painfully in his chest. He would never get over the pain of seeing his child hurting.
He was just about to ask Jamison what was wrong when a deafening clap of thunder shook the house, causing the little boy to scurry from his place at the door and up onto his fathers’ bed, nearly tripping over himself in the process.
Adam reached out and opened his arms for his child, letting him know that it was ok to retreat into them.
“C’mon, baby. Let’s go downstairs to make some hot chocolate, ok?”
“With extra marshmallows?”
Adam smiled. “As many as we can fit in the mug.”

They were at Nino’s seated at their regular table. School had let out less than an hour before. Blue had just sat down to talk with them during her break. Henry, Gansey, Blue, Ronan, Adam-- the whole gang was there. Things had been going swimmingly for a solid ten minutes.
But, of course, because Gansey’s life was just a series of stressful situations erupting through blissful peace, all hell broke loose. And yet again, there was Gansey could do nothing about it except watch his best friends’ relationship fall to shit.

Normally, Ronan wasn’t really one for conventions. In his six years as a YouTube content creator he’d been invited to plenty of different cons; occasionally he would say yes (especially if it had to do with Gaelic/Celtic culture), but not nearly enough for the invitations to continue to be so consistent and persistent.
Which was why Gansey was so completely floored that he’d accepted the invite to VidCon this year.
“What changed?” Gansey had asked after an hour (at least) or sputtering and raging at him.
“Not what,” Noah piped in, waggling his brows at Ronan. “Who.”
Ronan had promptly thrown a Sprite at Noah’s head and retreated to his bedroom, not ready to endure Gansey’s questions or Noah’s knowing teasing right then-- if ever.

This is unsurprising, because Gansey gets giddy over the same kind of shit that fourteen year old girls from Nebraska get giddy over, including but not limited to picnics, the soundtrack of Oklahoma!, and any sort of carnival, state fair, or hoedown. Ronan has a running bet that Gansey will run off to join the rodeo before he’s forty five; Adam is almost certain this will not happen, if only because Gansey does not really get animals, especially large ones.
