Arthur tries his hardest not to be amused at Merlin tearing a nobleman apart with his intellect, but it's just too funny.

Summary
Merlin answers his phone.
“Anderson.”
“Is that what you’re going by nowadays?”
Merlin looks skyward and closes his eyes in a bid for the peace that eludes him so, huffing out a sigh.
“Lizard man,” he greets.
“Hello, young warlock.”
Merlin hums, scuffing his shoes against the dirt at the side of the ‘road’.
“’S’pose you want me to come home for Christmas?”
“Would it be so terrible?”
Merlin snorts. “Right, then, wha’d’you want?”
“I’ve found your Destiny.”

Merlin is immortal, even if his memory isn't. He gets flashes, brief impressions, but that's it. He knows Kilgarrah's been around the whole time, and every few decades or so he calls Merlin and tells him he's found his destiny. Merlin can never quite remember what it is, but he goes along, and this time that means partnering and protecting a prat of a detective from the supernatural threats that he doesn't realise he faces. -

"Having been near you all these years, I am not unaware of the goings on of court, or the way you nobles like to do things.” He gives a half smile at that but doesn’t convince himself of his own humor, “I also know… that when a new king comes to power, he inherits his predecessor’s information network. His spies.”
Arthur leans back, folding his arms and narrowing his eyes, “That’s true, Merlin. I’ve been expecting whomever my father’s last spymaster was to come to me for days now. Do you know who it is?”
Don’t fidget. Don’t shift your weight. Goddess take you, Merlin, stand still. He clears his throat, “It was Gaius for a long time.”
The young king relaxes an imperceptible amount, and nods, “He’d have access to everyone, from villager to noble, and friendly relationships with most. Who is it now?”
Merlin stares at him, then spreads his palms helplessly, “Me.”
Merlin is Camelot’s spymaster and must reveal himself as such to Arthur when he becomes king.

Summary
The first half of the first tournament of magic in Camelot in 25 years was not nearly as interesting as Arthur had hoped.
Thus far, it hadn’t been all that different from the ones he had fought in with his knights, though with more supernatural throwing, shoving, and tripping. Arthur suppressed a pout.
He didn’t even get to participate in this tournament, and there were few things he loathed more than sitting by and watching a fight.
Things would probably get more interesting once Merlin entered the fray—the man brought trouble like carcasses attracted flies—and he would be competing with Albion’s other court sorcerers. Merlin made him feel a great many things, but he strongly doubted boredom would ever be one of them.

Whilst on a hunting trip out in the woods, Merlin and Arthur witness a tribe of Fae walking in a procession. Upon taking a closer look, they spot a half-shut coffin and hear the grief-stricken weeping of the mourning creatures.

When the King is attacked in his tent on patrol and falls into an unending sleep everyone is worried. What they don't know is that Arthur is fine. In fact he is standing right here next to them, watching them all fret over his prone body. To stave off the boredom whilst a cure is found Arthur takes to wandering the castle and soon discovered a hidden side of Camelot he never knew about.
