Yangchen is not the first nor the last Avatar that has decided to act on the draw between her and her closest companion. Ever since their relationship crossed that particular threshold, working side by side with Kavik has gotten rather distracting. It takes some time for Yangchen to realize that trying her hardest to keep herself focused on her duties does not have to mean isolation, especially when Kavik’s care and devotion provide the best possible balance to her tendency to neglect her human sides.

He isn't sure if it's because he's now(always has been) the avatar but it's like there's this new profound wisdom making him think more about his actions. Maybe that is the reason why he's pulling on Appa's reins to get him to turn around and go back to the southern air temple, where he should've been all along.
