A couple hundred years after Meteorfall, Cloud and Vincent are still around. And they start noticing some familiar faces reappearing, right at the same time that new WEAPONs do.
Wherein Cloud collects a pack of child versions of old enemies, tries to figure out how to keep up friendships with fellow immortals, and basically ends up in charge of the world. And this is just the prequel.
Note: This story exists to set up the second story in the series, but it ended up way too long for a prologue chapter. While you can theoretically skip this and start with the second story, a lot of the initial character dynamics probably won’t read as sensibly.

“Leave it alone!”
The eyes that meet his own are not the deep, unfeeling black void belonging to any of his brother’s eyes and Sanji’s heart leaps into his mouth, body freezing. Instead, a pair of uncanny green eyes, unnaturally bright, encounter his demand. Slit pupils, like those of a snake, narrowing at him.
The sound of another high-pitched squeak fills the sudden silence and Sanji’s eyes snap out from the snake’s to the little mouse wiggling frantically where pale, pale hands tightly hold it. It is going to eat it, and Sanji too, perhaps, in a single bite, and nobody is even going to care. But he cares for the poor mouse, and so, despite the fear choking his throat with cold, uncaring hands, he swallows and repeats: “Leave it alone.”
The snake cocks its head to the side, silver hair following the motion.
It can’t be called a chance meeting, just one strange accident. There’s nothing casual or serendipitous about it and, in the end, it won't be the catalyst for any difference in their life. The only thing both of them will have coming out of this will be a fond memory to look back at the edge of their humanity.

Summary
Sephiroth finally manages to escape JENOVA's control after one of his many deaths at the hands of Cloud Strife. Determined to make things right he tries to swim further into the life-stream so that JENOVA can't revive him. The Planet has different ideas.
Now once again ten years old, Sephiroth is determined to take down JENOVA and all the corruption in SHINRA before everything that went wrong in the last timeline occurs. Unfortunately he is short, young, and alone. In order to get access to SHINRA's files and still escape Hojo's clutches young Sephiroth makes an alliance with a female Turk who agrees to help him take out JENOVA when he tell's her its a world ending weapon. Now with access to SHINRA and the chance to breathe Sephiroth begins to make more plans. He is determined to save Angeal and Genesis this time around, and he intends to train Cloud so that he has a back up plan in case JENOVA takes control of him again.
Pragmatic and self-sacrificing to a fault, Sephiroth finds himself unable to avoid the found family, or his friends despite his best efforts to the contrary. Will he be able to defeat JENOVA, save his friends, and the world, or will he fail...again...

“Sephiroth!”
The SOLDIER who yelled is shorter than Sephiroth, his russet hair sweeps in front of his face. He has a friend with him, another SOLDIER, with dark hair.
“So, I guess you’re—“ the friend catches up with him, grabbing into his arm again in a panic— “getting ready for deployment in Wutai too?”
“I’m so sorry, sir.” Says the dark haired one, sheepishly and embarrassed. “We’ll leave you alone.”
He tries to yank his friend away, but the louder one shakes him off again, paying him no mind.
“Too?” Sephiroth repeats.
“Well, we’ll be going with you.” The SOLDIER replies, boasting. He sounds very proud of himself.
It clicks suddenly— “You’re the two SOLDIERS the board of directors promoted to 1ST CLASS.”
Aka; Sephiroth, age 15ish, meets the two newly minted 1ST CLASS SOLDIERS. (Also, some more scenes of them in the future, aligning with canon events.)
