“It’s a piece of history,” He argued and she was, as always, shocked at the rolling gravel that flowed quietly from his mouth, “We must preserve it.”
And Mae, who’d spent hours scrubbing the ghost of bloodied fingerprints from her brushes and days willing the scratch of pen to paper to drown out the sound of the Fire Princess's wailing; had looked at the child clutching ruined parchment to his chest and suddenly understood like a punch to the jaw why Prince Iroh had to be physically restrained from murdering his brother in cold blood.Or
The early days of Firelord Zuko's reign as described by his Royal Stenographer.

Or: Zuko is Kuzon’s reincarnation. Remembering the world before the Hundred Year War, he realizes that something has went very wrong with the Fire Nation much earlier than in canon.
Some things remain the same. Some don't.

Summary
“You remember him,” Chit Sang sounded surprised.
“I remember all of their names,” Zuko admitted. While he was on the ship, his father had sent him every death certificate from the 41st division. There was never any other note, no words from the Fire Lord, just a piece of paper with the name, age, and rank of the soldier who died. Zuko had kept every single one on his ship, reading over every single one and committing their names to his memory. He couldn’t stop them from dying, but they were what motivated him to keep moving, to get back his honor so that he could help prevent deaths like theirs.
.

.
Chit Sang's brother fought in the 41st division. Unknowingly, Zuko had become a beacon of hope to those in the Fire Nation whose family had perished in the needless war, to the people who wished for a Fire Lord who will fight for their people instead of power. Chit Sang feels the need to let Zuko know this.- Language:

Fire Lord Azulon names Zuko as his successor.
This does not fit with Ozai's plans.
This does not fit with Iroh's plans.
This does not fit with Zuko's desperate finger hold of control over his life, which is quickly disintegrating around him. -

Summary
The Avatar and his friends offer Zuko freedom. Freedom from General Bujing. From the forced servitude of slavery. From the empty nothingness that had consumed his life.
He takes it even though he knows there has to be a cost (everything, even a life, has a cost).
And while he slowly accepts that the offer was made with no strings attached, his newfound freedom will not allow him to escape the fact that because of him Uncle Iroh is dead. And after months of suppression... so too is his firebending.

Summary
"Scars are generally seen as a weakness. Especially for nobles. It’s unsightly.”
There’s a moment of dead silence in which almost all eyes turn to stare at the left side of his face. Zuko keeps his mouth firmly closed.
It’s Toph who breaks the tension. “Yeah, not to call your nation out or anything, Sparky, but you literally just said that you have a massive, blinding, and deafening scar on the side of your face. As the crown prince, that seems a little hypocritical of them.” Toph snarks.
AKA: An innocent comment about scars leads to Zuko spilling his Tragic Backstory, and the chaos that follows that particular revelation.

Summary
“I think he’s sick.” Bato says flatly. “So unless you want the next meeting to include the Fire Lord puking all over the budget scrolls, maybe see if he's okay?”
Hakoda glances up the hallway, like perhaps Katara will appear and take over dealing with the prickly teenager. Of course, his daughter is off treating injured refugees with the Avatar, and Bato is still staring at him expectantly, arms crossed.
“Fine,” He sighs, and he claps Bato on the cheek before heading into the room.
Or: Zuko falls ill not long after Ozai's defeat. Hakoda sits with him and learns some unpleasant truths about his childhood.

Summary
Zuko was lucky to be born. Azula wasn't.
Or,
For as long as he could remember, Zuko was the only child. And yet there she is, his stillborn sister, sharing his body, bending his fire with a skill he could never dream of, and refusing to be ignored. The court whispers. Father insists there can only be one. But Zuko isn't even sure it's a battle he wants to fight.____________
Or,
What if Azula was born dead, but spirit shenanigans happened, and with time it becomes apparent that she and Zuko are sharing his body. If it's even really spirit shenanigans and not just Zuko going crazy, that is.- Language:

Summary
The bath takes care of the sweat. Takes care of the burnt bits of skin and fat that still cling to his palm. Zuko scrubs his body until it’s raw, blushing red; he dunks his head under the hot water and stays there, staring up at the dark, vaulted ceiling of the washroom until his lungs run out of breath to use.
The oil of honeysuckle and opium and cinnamon, sweet and sharp and earthy, does not wash the stench of scorched flesh out of his nose.Zuko falls asleep on the evening of his official coronation, when he’s twenty-one-years old and has finally reached his majority. Zuko wakes on the morning of the Agni Kai with his father, eight years earlier.
This is annoying for several reasons, like the fact that the War is still ongoing, that he has zero friends, and that Ozai is not in jail.
It’s time to scheme.Series

Summary
“Blessed Spirit, we thank you for the gift of this child’s life. We are forever in your debt.” The whole village is kneeling now, even the tiniest toddlers flopped down on their stomachs doing their best approximation of a bow. “Please, won’t you give us a name to call you? We would like to properly express our gratitude.”
Oh.
Well shit.
(Where Zuko saves a little Earth Kingdom girl from drowning, the villagers think he's a Spirit, build him a shrine, and long story short, a fake story about the Blue Spirit who dances with dragons suddenly becomes very real.)

Summary
"You think after everything I did to them, they'd even entertain the thought of accepting me into the team?"
"Of course. What are they gonna do? I wouldn't say we have lines of candidates for the role of Aang's firebending teacher," Toph chuckled and rested her chin on Zuko's right shoulder. He appreciated that. It was nice that someone remembered his deafness in his left ear the first time. "Besides, you're a chill guy. So what if you chased them a little. It happens! Everyone has their flaws, right?"
"… Yeah."
"Well, except me, of course."
"Yeah, whatever makes you happy," Zuko smirked, looking away.
Yes. Zuko had a chance. Definitely had one. The main thing was not to give up.
And, if possible, to ask girl's name.
OR: What if Zuko wouldn't burn Toph's feets?
