Summary
Ever since their return to Hawkins in the previous spring, Will has kept a careful distance from Mike, keeping himself busy with school clubs to avoid spending time with Mike one on one - because every time they're in a room together, he finds himself on the verge of saying things he shouldn't, asking questions he knows are only going to hurt him. But then a snowstorm wreaks havoc in Hawkins, trapping him and Mike in the Wheeler house while the rest of the family are gone. "What?" Will laughs in disbelief.

Will huffs, smirking. "I wish I knew what it felt like so I could tell you if you're wrong."
"I could show you…"
"What?"
Mike clears his throat. "So you know what it's like," he speaks carefully, quietly, like any moment everything might fall apart. "Then you can tell me if I'm wrong or not."
Mike can't figure out why he still can't say I love you to El.
Will can't figure out why Mike's acting so strange.

Summary
When Mike and El spend most of the summer running off to the cabin together while Dustin is away, it’s no surprise that Will, Lucas and Max spend most of their summer together just the three of them. What was surprising was how little for all three of them it felt like Will was third wheeling to the point that it makes sense that Will would be where the couple is, even as they go on what most would consider dates had it just been the two.
When some secretes come to light, those considered dates become real ones, even if just for the summer.
No one was expecting the jealously that came from Mike at this shift in dynamics, even when he only knew half the story, least of all the boy himself.

“I was scared,” Mike says abruptly. Will looks up. “To tell you. About the, um, liking guys thing.”
He stares at one of Will’s older drawings on the far wall. It’s the two of them, Mike the Brave and Will the Wise, facing off against some formidable beast. Mentally, he scoffs. He’s never felt less like Mike the Brave than he does right now.
“Not like you’d have reacted badly, obviously. But I felt like I’d missed some kind of metaphorical window, and the longer I didn’t say anything, the harder it felt to bring up. So I just… never did.”
“And that’s why you stopped writing?” Will asks hesitantly.
“It’s part of it,” he admits. “The other part is that I was pretty miserable, and I didn’t want to put that on you.”
After losing touch over the fall semester, Mike comes face-to-face with Will for the first time in months while home for winter break, forcing him to confront a number of things he’d rather avoid. Naturally, they end up sleeping together. Repeatedly.

A sharp crack tears through the air. Mike flinches back, staring down at Will's lifeless body. He gets one last look before the ground is giving way beneath them, and all at once, they’re falling.
A shrill cry tears from Mike’s throat as he finds himself flailing through the open sky. A sharp crack of lightning shutters in the distance. Will's limp corpse contorts, dropping faster than he can. He’s screaming, unimaginable terror ripping through his body. He writhes, reaching for Will, crying the boy's name.
He’s falling, plummeting through a destabilized upside down and there's nothing he can do to stop it. He’s going to die.
Mike reaches out, eyes squeezed close. He tears the watch from Will's wrist, seconds before colliding with the Exotic Matter.

OR
Colliding with Exotic matter as the Upside Down collapses in on itself sends Mike hurtling through time. He’s given the chance to save Will before any of this starts.
But he can’t seem to get it right. Reliving moments throughout the years, helpless to warn Will. He just wants to keep him safe. Why can’t he keep him safe?
He’ll do this again and again until he gets it right. He won’t lose him again.
