this is the result of me getting bored of a) suffering which is canon rimlaine, and b) canon-compliancy in general. not only everybody lives and rimlaine + chuuya are basically a chaotic family, im writing the life out of my headcanons which are nonbinary rimbaud and neurodivergent verlaine.
(i mean. the aura of pure undiagnosed autism radiating off him. and rando's haunted/cryptic transcendentally-feminine vibe- have you seen his dark cottagecore house!? and teen chuuya being so in denial he's low-key homophobic but unknowingly beamingly gay!?!? i- your honor i couldn't have not. join me in my post-reality joy or perish.)

Summary
After the defeat of the Decay of Angels, Kunikida has to face the grief of losing Aya and Fukuzawa, and carry his duty as the president of the Armed Detective Agency.
Slowly, he loses faith in his ideals, and finds himself going down the Azure King's path. After Kunikida loses the sight of himself and leaves the Agency, the Agency members start a race against time to stop him before his spiral reaches the bottom. Will they find him in time, or will Kunikida end up with the same fate as the Azure King?

Another bone cracked loudly and Dazai recognized the sound of knuckles being dislocated. Another pained groan ripped out from Kunikida’s throat.
Flashes of memories crossed Dazai’s mind because of that sound. They had made many, many people sound like that in their lifetime and it made bile scratch at the back of their throat.

Dottore had been a fascinating specimen in life and remained an interesting one in death. It would’ve been better if you could’ve gotten him still breathing, but that ship had sailed, and frankly, you thought you’d never see him again until he was delivered to your doorstep in a cardboard box tied with a red bow. An odd choice, but he did look cute tucked all snug inside. He could’ve been sleeping, if that peaceful expression of his wasn’t marred by bruises and burns. If the stump of his severed arm wasn’t brushing up against his cheek.
There was a time when you could’ve seen yourself waking up beside him on pink and orange dawns to share a table for breakfast. You’d thought he understood, and perhaps he had.
It didn’t matter now.
Seven months ago, you broke up with Dottore after finding out about his experiments on Collei and the other kids. Even as a scientist of more… questionable means, you couldn’t stand by that. Now he’s found his way back to you, and you prepare his corpse for dissection.
