Maybe this had gone too far, Sokka allowed, the firmest of fake smiles affixed to his face. Stealing was one thing, doing whatever it took to survive was another, and faking it till you made it had always been his number one motto, but maybe, maybe, this had gone too far.
The Earth Kingdom mansion was practically plated in gold, the plants outside manicured into perfectly symmetrical shapes, and the accompanying servants wore impeccable clothing with manners to match. Sokka, on the other hand, had a smile, a suit that probably cost more than everything in his entire village, and the fervent hope that everything would turn out alright.
"Nice digs, huh?" Bumi, mad king of Omashu, elbowed him in the ribs, grinning. "Get it? Digs?"
Bumi was there, too.

She looked older. Taiyang supposed he'd never really gotten a good look at Ruby since the accident. The hospital had given her so many creams and bandages he wouldn't have been able to see much if he tried, but it was his lack of trying that really let him down this time. To be honest, he hadn't wanted to see what she looked like after. Not because he didn't want to see her burns, but because he didn't want to see her in pain he couldn't do anything about.
When he looked into her eyes, at her face grinning up at him, he saw she was more than happy to see him. But she was also in pain.
That's why she looked older.

Ruby skipped over to the bed and fetched her scroll, opening it back up to where she had been at previously. “Okay, because this is at the top of the mission board right now.” She handed her phone to her sister. “There’s a tribe that needs a huntsmen escort back to the city because people in their group keep going missing.” She described. “They’re nearby, and they really need our help.”
Yang hummed, reading the mission description. Ruby crosses her fingers and her toes. Her team doesn’t blindly follow her, and Ruby doesn’t want to force them into anything that can’t be agreed unanimously. But Ruby needs this. She can’t put an exact explanation on why, she just does.
Yang purses her lips, and Ruby realizes she’s just staring at it for extra long just to be annoying.
“Yaaaaang!” Ruby groans.
AKA: Taking the general vibes and character beats of the JLXRWBY movie part II and turning it into a story that could logically take place in the actual main timeline of the story.
