Statistically, condoms had a 98% success rate when used properly. That meant that the condom packet had to have been perfectly sealed, the latex itself had to have no tears or degradation in the material, and it had to be worn as directed.
So why?
Why did it feel like the universe was saying fuck you in big bold letters and giving him double birds at the same time?
So why did the blue lines and the pregnant on the two tests sound so fucking fake?
Or: Where Shane finds out he's pregnant after their first time together in 2013 despite wearing protection, because the universe loves to fuck with him.

Summary
Prince Ilya Rozanov was cursed to become a beast after he allowed grief and guilt to turn him into a cruel man, and has until the stroke of midnight on his 30th birthday to learn to love and be loved in return, or else he is doomed to be a beast the rest of his life.
Shane Hollander has lived most of his life in a small provincial town, seen as "odd" for not starting a family by his age, and for his "obsession" with books, learning, and crafting inventions with his father, David. He yearns for a different life, with someone, anyone, who understand he wants more than what's a "normal" life.
Things change when Shane travels with his mother, Yuna, to deliver their father's inventions at the capital, and they get lost at Castle Rozanov, cursed in an eternal winter. When they are arrested for trespassing, Shane offers to take the burden of his mother's crime, letting her free as he takes a lifetime of imprisonment by the Beast King Ilya.
Inspired by Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" 1991, as well as mix of other similar media, this is my personal take on the story, with a few twists and turns along the way.

This territory, in the frigid north of a fantastical medieval world, prepares for winter with low food stocks, a fear of Ilya's inexperience, and an unspoken terror of what is the early signs of a long and cruel winter ahead. Ilya feels the weight of his village's entire life on his shoulders and threatens to crush him.
Omega Shane is is a traveling apothecary, who came to Winterhaven seeking knowledge of herbs and the hopes of temporary shelter from the winter to come. He's a man who has wandered for most of his life, fleeing a past of abuse, violence, and rejection. All because he refuses to placate Alphas with half-truths and lies, and instead always speaks his mind, especially when the lives of others are on the line because of foolish pride.
Sparks ignite between Alpha and Omega, as Ilya realizes Shane's wisdom can protect and improve his village's outdated customs and save the lives of his people and Shane realizes that Ilya might be the only Alpha who will hear and respect him, body and mind.

“To catch us out!” Shane said, as if this were the most obvious thing in the world. “Troy definitely figured out we were together when you came out to him. For all you know, the others on your team might have figured it out too, if we’ve been as obvious as we apparently have been this whole time. What if they just want us to admit it? What if they’re messing with us?”

Ilya’s thumb brushed over his lips, along his jaw, down his neck where Shane could feel his pulse quicken under the touch. His hand drifted further, tracing his collarbone, drawing circles around his nipple, gliding over his abs until reaching his hip. The whole time, Ilya’s eyes never left his. Now they held a question. How far did Shane want to take this? They’d taken countless stupid risks over the years, and one had ended up outing them months before they’d planned. But this was a step further. This was a supremely bad idea.

“Hollander.” Ilya drawled in greeting as he came to a clean stop at the faceoff circle. The referee was still making his way over, after consulting with another striped official, and Shane’s giddiness threatened to make itself known as he bit back a grin.
“Rozanov.” he replied politely, before asking, “What’s your favorite color again?”
His eyes narrowed as they tried to suss out what Shane was after; since Ilya likely knew that Shane knew his favorite color was blue, had been since they were both seventeen years old.
“Blue. Why? Is color you are feeling now, knowing you will lose faceoff?” he chirps, and Shane fights to keep a straight face.
“Just curious. Mine’s red tonight.” he lies smoothly. Shane’s actual favorite color is a certain stormy gray-blue. “That’s the color of lace Jane’s wearing tonight for a special someone.”

Summary
The memory of Shane’s face the first time he had entered him has been permanently tattooed on his brain for years. There have been very few nights where the image of Shane arching back with his eyes closed in bliss has not haunted him, so many times that he knows it as well as his own. But this Shane, the one underneath him right this very moment, is going to be his undoing. It’s the same mouth open around a soundless cry, the same eyelashes fanning over freckled cheeks, the same shock of black hair against a pillow, but the expression is peaceful in a way that Ilya has never seen.
In comparison, Ilya is unraveling. He can feel every cell of his body vibrating on a frequency that threatens to dissolve him into an entirely different state of matter. Here, inside Shane with nothing between them, he is going to split apart and be made new, something beyond flesh.
