There is no safety in Morgana's arms. It is Ygraine who asks Nimueh to help her conceive a child born of magic, and though she knows what will come to pass, Nimueh is powerless before Ygraine's desires.
Decades later, that same child rules over a Camelot haunted by its past. The kingdom is besieged from without by a powerful Morgana seeking justice, and from within by its own broken laws. Gwen and Merlin stand at Arthur's side in his bitter war against his sister, but as their secrets come to light, Gwen must grapple with her gravitation towards the woman she once served. Summary: In which Morgana remembers her history, and seeks some manner of reconciliation with her present. (Modern reincarnation.)
Notes: This is set in the timing verse, the rest of which is focused on Merlin and Arthur, but this piece stands on its own. The story is internally divided into five parts, but it only needed two lj posts, so don't worry that you've missed something. I've done gobs of research for this thing, so hopefully there's nothing blatantly untrue, but regardless I apologize in advance for any inaccuracies pertaining to Britain, Africa, or the reincarnated angst of semi-mythological figures. Wow... there are so many notes I want to put with this, but that would end up taking me all day, so I suppose I should just ignore all the comments I want to make about this mythology and that mythology and all the slight tweaking I did to get things to fit together and skip to the important parts.
