Summary
When Walburga Black informs him that he will take the Dark Mark next summer, Regulus discovers an interesting side effect of believing himself already doomed: it becomes remarkably difficult to care about consequences.
It changes absolutely nothing.
He will still take the Mark. He will still be the heir his family expects. He will still die, probably.
But he is petty and nihilistic. What begins with a muggle philosophy book, a feral cat and an ill-advised prank soon spirals into late-night broom rides, wild rumours he absolutely did not start, and several unwanted attachments.
A study in insubordination, accidental self-discovery and all the ways life can change before it ends.

“Go on then, let's hear the great James Potter speak French.” Regulus reasons there were really only two ways this could go; scenario one: James can actually speak French and Regulus gets the gift of hearing it, or scenario two: he doesn’t know shit and Regulus can make fun of him for it. Win win.
As always though, James manages to surprise.
“Um, voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?”
Regulus blinks twice, short circuiting. Thoughts flash through his head. Did that just come out of James Potter’s mouth? Directed at ME? What the fuck? Am I dead? Did I die?
or; James Potter has an awful knack for implying he wants to sleep with one (1) Regulus Black.

Summary
Regulus Black was meant die. He was meant to be engulfed by the hands in that cave and drown with his sorrows, knowing that he'd done something important, something to help; found the locket.
Regulus Black didn't die. He woke up in a safe house with members of the order and people he'd shut out of his life for good years prior. Despite the circumstances, he had a mission to finish, a dangerous journey he started that he had to end safely, whether it ended his life or not.
Nobody was ever meant to get involved.
Regulus wasn't meant to survive, either.

“You were also married for at least three years, then you divorced him, and you still feel guilty about it.” He smiled once again. "How was I?”

Her job is simple: handle the press, stay out of the way, and do not get involved in Patrick Jane’s schemes.
So far, she’s learning that none of those things are particularly realistic.
The Special Crimes Unit doesn’t like the press. She keeps getting pulled to crime scenes. And Patrick Jane doesn’t seem especially interested in making her job easier.
Emma’s plan is to keep her distance, do her job well, and stay firmly on the outside of whatever it is Jane does.
It’s a good plan. A safe plan.
It just doesn’t account for Jane.
