L knows that Light Yagami is guilty. And he is forced to accept that he will never be able to prove it.
So, just this once, he decides to break his principles and go above the law. He kidnaps Light and takes him to Wammy's house.
He's sure that having the kids interact with a real-life mass murderer will be a very educational experience indeed.
Or: Light is Kira, L is sick of how easily manipulated the police are, and he secretly wants to see what will happen if he forces Light into a domestic situation with children just as intelligent as he is.

Asa's parents are dead. As such, she's lived in the public orphanage since she was a young girl, making money here and there as she prepares herself for adult life.
Then, one of the other orphans, a boy named Denji, mysteriously goes missing.
And they think Asa knows something.
If Asa wants to keep dreaming of a future outside these bleak brick walls, she needs to find him herself. Yoshida Hirofumi quickly becomes her prime suspect.
(Or, the whole cast lives in an orphanage because no one has parents in this goddamn series, Denji's gone and everyone's freaking out, and Yoshida is way too creepy for his own good.)
