Castiel tilts his head, a leftover tick from his angel days that Dean would be lying if he claimed to find anything but idiotically endearing. He knows this is his own fault, owing to that rather memorable moment a week ago when Cas wandered into this very same kitchen with a (fairly) legitimate question and Dean just didn't know when to shut up.

Summary
With a jolt- a terrible, gasping noise- Cas wakes as if forced into this world all over again. Dean only has a second to take in the pale of his skin and watch the way Cas’s bottom lip trembles before Cas has both hands braced against Dean’s chest and pushes with a force that knocks the wind out of him.
The Oof! that blooms out of Dean’s throat seems to snap Cas out of whatever state of terror he was still in because he blinks as if to clear a fog from his eyes before a different sort of awful expression crosses his face.
“Dean, I- I’m so sorry-”
“Hey, man,” Dean says. He’s trying his best to keep his voice soothing, but there’s a strange tremor in his fingers still. “Hey, it’s okay, it’s alright. Been there, done that. Just glad you didn’t have a gun under your pillow.”

“You seem lost, Dean.” Cas scrunched the poor plant the same way he scrunched his hair when he got nervous, fingers leaving little intents which sprang back quickly. Dean shrugged.
He was lost.
But he’s been lost since day one and it was okay. His heart wasn’t hammering, and his head wasn’t spinning and racing from one nightmare to the next. He poked one of the flowers, so damn close to Cas’ hand, and thought about what kind of ring would fit Cas best. Simple, a family heirloom. Or maybe something new. Something theirs. Cas studied him, as intensely as ever, and Dean was so close he could pick out the variations in Cas’ eyes. He didn’t want to speak, not now. Angrier than he’ll admit until, late at night, Dean coaxes it out of him: Castiel is pissed and he wants revenge. He wants it enough to pursue Metatron, reckless and without a plan, across the Atlantic with Dean at his side, knowing how badly he wants Dean and how likely it is that one or both of them will die along the way.
Their search takes them all across the world, from London to Omsk to Tokyo and between. Far from home with no one but each other, Castiel’s grace missing and the Mark still on Dean’s arm, Dean and Castiel find the flimsy barriers between the two of them dissolving. (Canon-divergent from 10.18.)

This time, Dean didn't bother with a greeting. Once his eyes were open and his limbs were upright, he ignored the tightness in his chest to ask, "That dickbag Uriel know you're here?"
Castiel didn't say a word as Dean got out of bed and threw on his jacket. He just hovered like he always did, perched and waiting, and Dean made a face at him as he fixed his collar and went to fetch his boots by the door.
"No, and I would suggest you keep this between us," Cas said carefully.
Dean laughed. "Yeah, I bet you do."
Or, when Castiel raises Dean from Hell, his handprint bestows them with an accidental bond, and what starts as a decision to help Dean through his Hell nightmares, becomes an attachment neither of them is willing to break.
