Summary
Arthur liked to be in control, or at least on even footing with whoever he was interacting with. That was how he’d always been. Just…maybe not with Eames. The thought of letting someone else take control, letting Eames take control, was…different. Intriguing. Enticing. Enough so that he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about it. Maybe even imagining what it would be like, more often than he cared to admit over the recent weeks, and what had started as a bit of teasing had started to become more and more serious in his mind.

“Hey, look.” Nile came to a stop next to Nicky’s desk and took a sip of her coffee. “People are finally moving into the place across the street.”
“Hmm?” Nicky sat back from his computer and followed her gaze out the window. Across the street, he could see into an apartment where a man was setting down boxes. Nicky and Nile shared an office, and they used to be fortunate enough to have an unobstructed view of the city. But a couple years ago, new construction had gone up. Now their view was straight into the large sleek window of an apartment in a highrise.
Joe moves into the apartment across from Nicky's office, and he has a penchant for leaving the window open.

Finn wasn’t sure how he would fix it, but there was a certainty seated deep in his chest. He could fix it and in doing so would connect with the Force in a way he’d never imagined.

Nicky feels a smile slip onto his face as he takes it all in. Nicky is teaching again. He’s got a classroom that’s his in a good school; Nicky gets to make this space his own, he gets to put his passion for watching other people learn and grow somewhere, he gets to watch as student’s eyes widen when they finally understand something they’ve been stuck on. As those thoughts sink in, as Nicky lets himself realize that he’s back to doing what he loves, someone knocks on his door.
Nicky pushes himself off the wall and looks over to see who it is, only to lose all of his higher brain functions when he sees a very beautiful man standing in his doorway, wearing dark wash jeans and a blue t-shirt. He is possibly the most beautiful man Nicky has ever seen in his entire life, with his curly hair and thick beard and his arms-
“Hey, you’re Nicky, right? I ran into Quynh and she said you came in today, so I thought I would introduce myself. I’m Joe.” Joe offers Nicky his hand and Nicky takes it after he blinks a few times too many. Joe’s smile is very pretty and even more distracting. He needs to get it together, but he can’t, because Joe’s hand is so warm that Nicky misses it when Joe takes his hand back.

Of all the possible worlds, Nicky thinks there could be one where they bought that downtown loft, one where they stayed in New York, one where he never even took a teaching job. But he can’t imagine a world where he didn’t end up with Joe.
Joe takes Nicky’s hand and kisses each knuckle, pausing to admire the ring. He never gets sick of looking at it, this sign to the entire world that Nicky belongs to someone, that Nicky belongs to him. His lover, his partner, his baby.
