Jayce looks back at his own body and takes it all in. His knee feels sore, but not unpleasant, and when he reaches up, he feels tiny imprints of Viktor’s fingertips. He’s sure they’re colorful as well. Frowning, Viktor reaches up and traces the scars, his bottom lip quivering, about to cry, but Jayce just shakes his head; if a few scars are what he exchanges for Viktor’s life, then he’ll take as many cuts and bruises as the universe can give them.
“You’re alright,” Jayce murmurs. Leaning forward, he touches their foreheads together, only smiling when Viktor presses in as well, returning the gesture. There is a low, warm and comforting hum between them as they touch. Either a reminder of what they’ve done or a reward for how they fixed it, Jayce doesn’t care. A hand, Viktor’s hand, comes up to caress his hair on the back of his neck, the other wrapping itself around his forearm. “We’re gonna be okay,” he promises.
He means it.

Summary
Arching a brow, Nicholas pauses and then drifts after Vash, drawn in by the gravity of him and the silly, besotted smile on his face. Honestly, that's probably Nicholas' second mistake because he doesn't pay a lick of attention to the odd tension or sudden strange silence that makes the hair on the back of his neck prickle.
A stop over in a small town escalates into a bigger problem when a group of ruffians get it in their heads to go after the 60 Billion Double Dollar Man. Vash and Wolfwood make the best of it, all things considering.

The serum is nearby, and he can keep fighting with only one gunshot wound—this is nothing compared to what he’s been built to endure. He just, needs to gather his concentration and do this properly—he hefts the Punisher and attempts to right himself—
There’s a flurry of movement at Wolfwood’s back, punctuated by a cry from Vash so distressed Wolfwood would think he got hit himself if it weren’t for the lack of gunshots. Wolfwood’s sluggish brain takes some time to catch up as he turns, his surroundings warped and blurry, and he’s moving so slowly he almost doesn’t catch what happens next—Vash, wearing this awful, furious look and firing across the battlefield before whirling back around to take out the rest of the bandits.

Wolfwood takes a hit for Vash during combat and it dredges up complicated emotions in both of them.

But when he tries to move he just can’t, so instead he avoids Wolfwood’s panicked eyes and admits, his stomach curling with anxiety the whole while, “My back. It’s an old injury. But it’s fine. It’s –“
“I swear, spikey, if you say ‘fine’ one more time, I’m gonna rip out your spine and beat you to death with it.”
A decades old injury, the realisation that sometimes you need to accept a helping hand, and the horror of falling in love with a doomed man.
