[Y/N] loved fixing things. It gave her a sense of purpose like nothing else did. Her favorite thing to fix was toys, and she thought what she found that night was close enough to one. It wasn't. The broken animatronic she found among trash was a glorified coffin caging in a dead man, kept on this Earth only by the grief, guilt and anger.
"It wasn't its fault it was in disrepair." She thought to herself as she drove the husk home. She didn't know how wrong she was.
He didn't want her to know. He wanted her to keep trusting him to be harmless even though he was not, keep mending his wounds with careful hands as if he were still alive, as if he still deserved it. Even in the sea of fire that had nearly destroyed him, his existence never stopped being cold. His fractured mind completely forgot what comfort and care felt like.
Under the gentle light of her workroom, he felt warm, for the first time in so long.

Elsewhere, you, middle aged and overworked, spend your weekdays at a job only loosely related to your field of interest. It overlaps just enough with your major for you to stomach it—more importantly, the pay lets you indulge in your hobby in the free time you’re spared: animatronic restoration.
You think you’ve scored something incredible when you find him, a sad and beat up thing, neglected and awful by all measures, certainly a hell of an undertaking but perfect for you to keep yourself busy. Loneliness and desperation, however, take you to some depths you’re not entirely equipped for.

And why does she suddenly find herself not trusting Dumbledore as much as she used to?
This story will follow Diana's journey from Prisoner of Azkaban all the way to Deathly Hallows. It will mostly stick to cannon, but some of the events are going to be different, not only because they're from an adult's perspective, but also because Diana's own choices undoubtedly will affect how everything plays out.
There will be flashbacks to the Marauder's Era, there will be shenanigans, and there will be magic.

No. Superhero's were assholes who made messes and didn't give a shit what consequences innocent people faced because of them. Gwendolyn was not a superhero, but she did have superpowers.
She had always been able to hear the truth as clear as day. See it in others as a bright flame and smell its sweet nectar in the air. She thought it was just some fluke, that she had an impenetrable luck for guessing the truth from a lie. But in her heart, she knew it wasn't luck. And after accidentally being discovered by SHEILD, she had been forced to confront her reality head on.
Gwen did as little superhero work as she could get away with. But after the attack on New York, she was unable to refuse Fury's call when it came in.
What she hoped would be a routine interrogation - get in, urge the truth from some unlucky individual's lips, and get out - turned into so much more when she met the eyes of her victim.
Because those eyes, those green, deep, beautiful eyes were that of her soulmate. And her soulmate was the God of Lies.
