He was picking at loose threads on the armchair cushion, staring at Will’s earring. Finally, he worked up the nerve to ask—
“When’d you get your ear pierced?”
Will glanced his way and smiled, a little sheepish. “Like a month ago,” he said, twisting the gold stud between his fingertips.
“What does Carlton think about it?” Max asked, leaning forward with a wolfish grin.
Will flushed, ducking his head. “He likes it,” he said, simply.
Mike’s mouth went dry. The world skidded to a stop. “Who’s Carlton?”

Having sold their house in Hawkins a year and a half prior and moved to California, when they came back, and the town got put in lockdown, they didn’t have a place to go.

“Looks like I bit you.” Will tilts his head to get a better look. All Mike can do is stare at him. His fluffy hair at the front, clumped pieces at the back where he’d slid his fingers in a mere few minutes before. His pretty green eyes that look hazel or even brown in this light, the dark circles he gets when he drinks framing them like intricate paintings. A satisfied, bloody smile.
Mike isn’t satisfied. He swallows thickly, choking down the words 'don’t you want more?'
Or: Will dresses as a vampire for a college halloween party, but Mike thinks his costume isn’t bloody enough. Will lets him fix it. Mike goes into a crisis.

Mike gets telepathic powers randomly, three years after Vecna’s defeat. He tunes into people’s thoughts, expecting every guy’s mind to be like his. When he finds surprisingly few gay thoughts about best friends, he’s forced to re-evaluate and see if maybe it’s just him? (it is.)
It doesn’t help that the one mind he wants to read the most seems to be set to a different frequency entirely.

Before Mike even really realised what he was doing, he was lifting himself up on his hands, bringing himself up over Will’s body so he could kiss the smile on his lips. Will let out a pleased, happy little sigh, and Mike wanted nothing more than to make him do it again. He wanted to discover every single noise that Will could make. In which it’s well past midnight in New York, Will can’t sleep, and Mike feels like they barely know each other anymore.
