Summary
Scott’s childhood was filled with bedtime stories told by his mother, stories of the other empires, of magic, of the gods. She told grand tales of corruption and the gods who sacrificed themselves to cast it from the realm, leaving the land they created and the people they guided safe.
Then she dies, and there is no more time for stories. Scott devotes himself to his studies. He molds himself into the image of a beloved king, elegant, knowledgeable, kind, and perfect. Always perfect. He provides for the citizens of Rivendell and watches as his kingdom thrives. He joins the Alliance, establishing trade routes and alliances, and gains a few friends along the way.
But something goes wrong. Something creeps through the land, corrupting it. Accompanying it is a creature of magic, a creature that speaks with a voice belonging to the shadows and Nether, and each day it grows stronger.
His mother's stories may no longer just be stories. But they may not be the entire truth either.

Cal was woken up earlier than he liked this morning but hey, at least he got to go to his favorite book store. Cal started to slowly walk through the isles, trying to find a new book or to see if one of his series updated. As he was looking, a book on the floor caught his eye. He knelt down and picked it up. The book looked kind of old, the pages being a light yellow. “Why would they keep a book like this?” he thought as he looked at the cover. It was a faded blue color with black flower details on the edges and right in the center was the title in navy blue font, “Till Death Do Us Part? Is this some kind of romance book?” he mumbled as he looked for the author’s name. He didn’t see it on the front so he checked the spine. Nothing. “That’s weird, it’s usually on the front or spine.” He thought as he flipped the book over. Nothing again. He opened the book and checked the first and last pages. Still nothing. “Guess I’ll ask the workers…” Cal really didn’t want to talk to people more than he needed to, but he wanted to see if the author was someone he knew about. But, as he was walking back towards the front, he was hit with a sudden wave of dizziness. “What the hell?” was his last thought, then he blacked out.
