Hatake Kakashi doesn't want a genin team. ANBU Hound can protect the village well enough, and he didn't have to deal with things like emotions.
Kakashi already had plenty of things keep his mind off his numerous failures. Like S- rank missions, or A-rank missions, or occasionally socializing with an algorithmically selected friend group whenever the Psych department started to question his fitness for the field, or even a B-rank mission when he wanted to relax.
Things are fine - could a depressed person spend 70% of their time reading jutsu theory and refining their abilities, trying to fill their never-ending loneliness with studying and rationality?

In this Itachi believes wholeheartedly. It’s only through hard-won experience someone becomes so adept at altering their plans on the fly the way Kakashi is prone to do. He suspects it’s no small part of how they’re able to survive the poor hand they are so often dealt.

The ground beneath Obito’s feet was cracked from the force of the battle they had just fought, but the world around them remained eerily still. Kakashi could barely lift his head, but he could see enough to know this was it.

But Obito’s eye had already started glowing, the familiar, spiraling pattern of his power activating. The air around them rippled, space warping and twisting. Kakashi could feel the pull of the technique, but it felt different this time, deeper, more forceful. His heart pounded in his chest.

Kakashi nodded once, his gaze meeting Geralt’s for the briefest moment before shifting away again. “ That’s what I’m trained for.”
Geralt studied the boy for a long moment, processing what he had said. It explained the way Kakashi had fought, the lack of silver, the way he moved like a shadow on a battlefield rather than a Witcher in the wild. The kid wasn’t trained to deal with the monsters of the world—he was trained to kill men.
