If Milo was being completely honest with herself—a rarity, to be sure—she didn’t expect him to call. It had been a spur-of-the-moment thing, anyway. Somewhat of a formality. They were both from the same kind of world. They both knew the right steps, the right lyrics to the song of the rich and lonely.
And yet… There was a small part of her that hoped for the call. That glanced at the phone every so often the next morning, it to stay silent. And desperately hoping it wouldn’t.
Or, the morning after the ballet, Henri takes Milo up on her offer, and emotions ensue.

"Well," Adam uncovered the keys, unsure of what else to say, "good thing for you, I happen to like depressing. Plays that end happy are overrated, anyway."
Some time after the ballet, Adam finds that the end of the war didn’t mark the end of suffering, as everyone in Paris liked to believe. Not by a long shot.

Slipping into Whit's End after hours and finding Connie cleaning up shop was expected. Ideal, even, as she was another solid ally. She gushed over his return and gave him a hug that made his lungs scream for help. Richard supposed he also should've expected that.
The unexpected came in the news that followed.
"Whit?" Connie frowned at his question. "Didn’t you hear? Well, of course, you wouldn't have heard. What was I thinking? Sorry, uh..." She took a deep breath, her eyes glistening for a brief moment. "Whit left."
Error. Incorrect password. System failure.
Richard blinked, trying to reset his brain and hoping he hadn't heard her right.

Summary
He's been in Radiator Springs for just over six months when Lightning chances a glance at the calendar that Doc hangs up on their fridge.
The thing is color coded too- because knowing Doc: of course it is.
Blue means a race day, green means training down at the Butte, and the yellow days are the rest days that Doc insisted he take in order to not burn himself out from it all.
He freezes mid chew when he spots a lone space in June free of any color.
This upcoming Sunday.
More specifically: Father's Day.
Lightning has one of those, one rotting away from booze in Nowhere, Alabama. One he would prefer to forget most days. And now he has a Doc. He's not exactly sure what he's supposed to do with that knowledge.
(Or the one where Lightning struggles with the fact its fathers day and Doc is absolutely born to be Dad-shaped. Shenanigans occur as our resident racer figures out how to show how much he appreciates his Mentor.)
