Summary
Vera's world ended not with a bang, but with a whimper: the year is 2095, the world in the throes of late-stage climate change. The Earth will keep going, the humans - not so much. As it turns out, the apocalypse is contagious: either that, or she has spectacularly bad luck. Waking up naked on a bloody altar isn't the best introduction to a new place, but you make do with what life hands you. After a rocky start, Vera finds herself in Markarth, trying to make a new home for herself amidst the violence, corruption, and Thalmor zealotry. But just when things are finally settling down - as much as they can in the city of blood and silver - a Nord and a Dunmer roll into town with the mother of all bad deals. Always read the fine print.
This series starts about a year before the events of the game and will continue through the timeline and the DLCs. This fic is the first installment. Canon-compliant(ish), but skews towards a lot of original content. Narration is in 3rd person limited; the protagonist is not the Dragonborn.

You were in your element, and tonight was your night to rock the fuck out.
However, fate is never a sane nor a predictable mistress; while you could be fairly sure that you would enjoy your evening of thrashing and dancing to live, loud music performed by your favorite band, what you would actually discover under the thunderous flashes from the strobe lights was the very last thing that you ever expected to find at a heavy metal concert, and he was the exactly the very last person that you would ever expect to find it with.

Middle Earth was a world she grew up with, so indeed she knows who lives in the realms of Tolkien's universe, but as she herself ends up in Thranduil's Halls, she must figure out how to stay friends with the king and earn his trust, without spilling secrets that could ruin everything. Constantly suspicious of the woman's behaviour and her mystery, Thranduil's interest towards her grows, but her stubbornness and bold confidence that almost levels with his own, makes it hard for a relationship to evolve. As time passes, secrets spill and the woman must fight to upkeep any form of trust. Will she succeed? Will she survive?
