Ilya liked Shane’s parents. He really did. David and Yuna Hollander were entirely devoted to their only child–maybe sometimes a bit intense, if not a little overbearing, in Yuna’s case–and their attentiveness had moulded him into a kind, hardworking, and thoughtful man. Truly, their son was a testament to the quality of both their character’s–Shane’s soft underbelly nurtured by his father’s patient tone and earnest gaze and his shrewdness and talent sharpened by his mother’s fierce mettle. Shane was the sum of his parent’s parts, yet entirely his own, and Ilya was very grateful to the tender, yet firm, hands that had shaped the man he loved. But right now, well, right now Ilya was not their biggest fan.

Summary
Despite Bruce's innate lack of goodness – the way he knew that if someone were to peer next to his heart where his soul lay and they would find nothing but a gnarled, black pit – Clark had never been anything but kind. Bruce wanted to be good for Clark, to be able to look anyone in the eyes and say that they made each other better. Bruce wasn't a pity project, a moral charity case for Clark to take a fancy too. He could be someone worth loving, if he could only move past the coiled fear in his gut.
Which found Bruce taking the elevator up to the seventh floor of the Daily Planet's headquarters, to the bullpen where he knew Clark worked.

Summary
Inevitable comes around four in the morning. He’d been tossing and turning since they’d gotten back from their last call a couple hours ago, and had finally decided to give up and look for a snack in the kitchen. He thought he left the bunk room quietly enough that no one would notice, but when he pulls his head out of the fridge with a jar of peanut butter, Eddie is standing across the island from him, that grim look still fixed on his face.
“Hey,” Buck says.
“Hey,” Eddie says back. “You’ve been avoiding me.”
Buck’s cornered and he knows it. He shrugs, twisting the jar in his hands. “It’s been a busy shift.”
Eddie doesn’t roll his eyes, but Buck still feels like he does. Instead he walks over to the big table, pulls out a chair and sits. “Just wanted to ask if you can stop by after our shift is over. Wanted to talk to you about something.”

Eddie loved El Paso growing up, in the way that only children can love a place; then, when life started to leak in, he grew to hate it, maybe a little unfairly, in the way that only teenagers can hate a place. Now, as he drives past the places he haunted in his youth, the places that have haunted his adult life, he thinks he understands it.
El Paso is Texas, but barely, tucked into the very corner of the state, a different timezone than the rest. It’s sandwiched between Mexico and New Mexico, as close to Los Angeles as to the Arkansas and Louisiana borders, with endless desert between. Part of something, but set apart; hemmed in close but still so distant from the rest of what it’s meant to be a part of.
He pulls into the driveway and turns off the car.

eddie's not entirely sure he believes in getting help, at least not for himself. there's only so much healing to be had for a body torn apart by bullets, for a mind that's only half there, for a man who's been leaving pieces of himself behind all his life with nothing to take their place.
except, as it turns out, falling apart happens in increments, and healing does, too: it happens when you gnaw a hole in your lip trying to keep quiet only to have the words escape; when you realize that the ghost you've been seeing out of the corner of your eye is yourself; when your best friend smiles, and you allow it to take your breath away.
it happens through the smallest of things: bird feeders, and cacti, and pasta shapes.
meanwhile, the world goes on.
