Of course, the problem arises when the Courier's companions turn out to be some of those same deadly secrets the Mojave loves to keep- strange creatures that lurk in the dark- ....and the Courier doesn't seem to notice. But Arcade does. The Courier's dumb luck can't last forever, and someone has to be there to make sure he doesn't get hurt.
