Logically, Mike knows what he’s doing is weird. Somewhere, deep in the back of his mind he knows it. Still, he tells himself that it’s normal. That he is normal. That stealing a box of his best friend’s clothes labeled ‘donate’ in black marker and keeping it firmly hidden in the back of his closet was something any normal person would do. It wasn’t weird, anyone else would do the same!
And who could blame him? Mike has been surrounded by Will for as long as he can remember. They’re close! Mike cares about Will, always has. The urge to protect him, to take care of him, was so instinctual even before Mike had presented as an alpha. They were a pair, always together, attached at the hip until… well, until recently but Mike was going to work on that! He really was!

Phainon's hands shook even more. "I'm just," Phainon licked his lips, tongue running nervously over the seam of his lips. "Tired."
"Tired," Mydei repeated. He couldn't help but press Phainon, unnoticing of how Phainon seemed like a nervous wild animal, ready to bolt at any moment. "You never over steep the chamomile." He said once more.
Phainon didn't look at him. "I said I'm just tired," he gritted, more forceful this time.
Involuntary fear crept up Mydei's spine. It was more instinct than rationale, at this point. He knew Phainon would never hurt him on purpose. It was the Reaver.
And yet the Reaver wore Phainon's face and hurt him anyway.

Something about growing up seeing your brother covered in wounds twenty-four seven will do that to a kid, make it their drive in life to help people and save people because he couldn’t save Touya. It just so happened his degree also gave him the best standing in who could have a say in where Touya went after the things about Touya’s situation came out. He had the knowledge, experience, and training to take Touya in on house arrest while he recovered physically under Natsuo's care, and it was either that or transferring him to some other institution that would likely mistreat him all the same.
So Natsuo took Touya in, because at the end of the day, Touya was all Natsuo had… And now Natsuo was really all Touya had.
