A click. A grin. A flash. Darkness. Nothing.
When Jason woke up, it wasn’t with a startled flinch and gasp of air like he’d come to expect. He didn’t sit up, drenched in sweat and cough as his breath returned to him. He just continued lying there, almost as if he had fallen asleep easily, at perfect peace, and had awoken in much the same state.
He looked dully in front of him and then slowly, arduously, turned over onto his other side and tried to will himself back to sleep.

Reeling from the events of Death of the Family, the Batman family is splintered. As Jason Todd finally resurfaces, the family is thrown into a chaotic situation they are utterly unprepared for, much farther away than they could have imagined. The myth of the lone wolf was in truth nothing more than a fairy tale, a creation of humanity that was as incurious as they were imaginative. They spoke life into a story of self reliance and resilience, unwilling or unable to comprehend that such a life was nothing but a death sentence to a wolf - mundane or magical by birth. Wolves lived and died by the pack. A packless wolf was a dead one, or as good as. To wander alone, untethered to a community or family, was the greatest shame of all. It painted you as unlovable. It painted you as untouchable.
It painted you as other.

His childhood friend drops to his knees. Sang-woo pushes himself up, scrabbling at the ground. He crawls over to Gi-hun, blinking rapidly in utter disbelief.
“Hyung,” he croaks, “why did you do that?”
Why would he sacrifice himself when he could have won? Why would he give it all up for a wretch like Sang-woo who had killed people in cold-blood? He had murdered the girl that Gi-hun had a foolish attachment to, and Gi-hun still chose to save him.
Gi-hun was an idiot. He was truly a stupid idiot who had no business being here. It was his own fault. Sang-woo won because Seong Gi-hun was an idiot with a bleeding heart.

Gi-hun sacrifices himself for Sang-woo during the Squid Game. Sang-woo never forgives him for it, even as he wakes up and finds himself in the games all over again.

“I wasn't talking about killing.” Gihun stepped closer, looking at him once again. “Are you afraid to lose me, Inho?”
