Summary
Rinse, Wash, Repeat.
For five years, Diluc has trapped himself in the same cycle of isolating himself from the rest of Teyvat to punish himself for putting his father out of his misery.
“Happy birthday” meant nothing to him- he didn’t deserve one, after all.
When he has to deal with a situation at the tavern on his special day, he isn’t too eager to have to face Mondstadt on the anniversary of his father’s death.

Summary
Shneznya was dangerously cold. During his travels, if Diluc didn’t know how to make a fire he would have died of hypothermia. Winter was endless there. It was horrendous. Snow usually set him off for panic attacks and flashbacks. Mondstat, thank the 7 Archons, was not that cold. It never got that cold.
Diluc didn’t like the cold. Everytime there was snow, Diluc would probably experience a panic attack or flashback or something bad. But maybe not all his memories are.. awful.

Glorious beings from the Heavens who according to his father granted gifts to the worthy. He dreamt of billowing hair and cloaks with grand white wings and songs on the wind. He prayed that one day he too would be chosen to even just bask in their presence.
Columbina on the other hand, just wanted a front row seat to the grand opera Pierro had planned for the end of this forsaken world.

Summary
The person in front of them put a shaky, mechanical hand on the doorway to support himself, looking weak and exhausted from walking even such a short distance. Now that he’d come out of the dark doom, his face was recognizable as that of none other than Crepus Ragnvindr himself.
Or something or someone wearing his face, anyway.
Crepus Ragnvindr was dead.
And yet what Kaeya and Diluc saw in front of them would suggest otherwise.
‘Hey, Diluc…’ Kaeya breathed out, unable to tear his eyes away. ‘You see him too, don’t you?’
‘Yeah.’ Diluc whispered, finding it equally impossible.
‘Two people don’t usually hallucinate the same thing at the same time, do they?’
‘Shut up.’
Kaeya did, if only because the piercing gaze of those familiar eyes was boring into him. He felt frozen in place, unable to do a thing.
‘I kind of…need a hand here.’ Crepus brought out, his voice raspy almost as if hadn’t used it in, let’s say, almost five years.

Or: Il Dottore is a madman who conducts morally dubious experiments...but if that means their dead father doesn't actually turn out to be dead after all, maybe Kaeya and Diluc are willing to ignore that. Maybe.

Diluc had started to make his way to his normal chair at the feast, before realizing that’s not where he should sit anymore. How strange it is, to take a seat in this very chair that his father once sat in when he was alive. How strange it is, to be staring at the wall, everyone, the table, from a different angle.
