Sokka’s head snapped over to Zuko, who looked just as shocked as Sokka felt. His cheeks were cherry-red and he had a hand clapped over his mouth. “Did you just laugh?” Sokka asked. Just to make sure his ears still worked.
Zuko spluttered, his cheeks darkening. “What—no! Why would I ever—I mean, what is laughing?” And then, “Your jokes suck anyway!”

Sokka accidentally makes Zuko laugh during one of their fights. He takes it upon himself to continue making Zuko laugh in their future encounters, just as a "distraction tactic."

Whenever Keith is snappy and irritable or blank and sad, Lance will invent some stupid game where he’s ‘definitely better at than you, Mullet, so eat that!’ until Keith has perked right up and started arguing right back and playing along with so much intensity that he forgets why he was so upset in the first place.
Yeah. It’s definitely one of the many reasons why Keith likes him so much. He’s always had a soft spot for the kind ones.
Most of the time, though, everyone’s feeling pretty good. There’s no one who needs Lance’s strength or wit or humour to go to bed with a weight lifted off their shoulders. No one Lance needs to care for.
On these days, Lance sits with whomever he carefully chooses. (Keith is pleased to note that, on a good chunk of these occasions, Lance sits with him, but that’s neither here nor there.)

Summary
Polites, a gentle pacifist and skilled medic who always greeted the world with open arms, was the closest and dearest friend to Odysseus and would give his all to help any soul in need. He believed in peace rather than war and was an expert at mending the most serious of wounds and sickness.
Having spent most of his life suppressing feelings for a strong, beautiful, loyal King that was his best friend, he never confesses these feelings as to not interfere in Odysseus’ marriage but after 10 years at war, Polites fears he may never get chance. That comes true once they reach the cave of the Cyclops.
Polites’ untimely death sends Odysseus and the rest of his crew downhill unbeknownst to him, he has problems of his own when he wakes up after death with some of his unfortunate comrades.
The Gods like to throw dice now and then.

Athena isn’t stupid, she recognised how much of a driving factor Polites was for Odysseus.
Odysseus would do anything to protect Polites from danger, to the point where he’d do things he never had before and he would find new skills he and Athena could practise, all for making sure Polites was safe. It was this sort of instinct buried inside of him; one Athena wasn’t bothered to try to get rid of.Though, that's not the only reason Athena keeps Polites around.
