"Maedhros sought destruction body and spirit, and found both. When Mandos summoned him, he refused, and first of them all he has been taken by the void that they swore themselves to. He is not in the world, and will not come again. Deeper darknesses are there than that which Morgoth made below Thangorodrim!” Fingon paused and looked at Finrod. “Should I not then have killed him as he asked me?”
“No!” said Finrod, but Turgon said nothing.
Sam grew even more upset. “Now that’s not right,” he said, “that can’t be right! Just or not – and I don’t know that it is, begging your pardon, sir – still, no story should end that way!”

I really like this take on human Crowley and how it would affect Aziraphale and their relationship but I feel like Death really had a point: it was Crowley's mortality that brought A&C together... the looming threat of a limited lifespan allowed them both to actually explore their feelings more fully I think. So... Death was kinda right?

Bookmarker's Notes
I would have never thought this couple could work, I usually never read fics with Voldemort as a part of the main pairing but Author, you totally sold me on it!
The prose is great and I love how the Black family is explored... the way they think makes total sense with their presumed "aristocratic" (sometimes to the point of incestuous!) nature, and perfectly embodies the mentality of a noble family completely taken in by their own belief in their divine right to rule. It's a very realistic depiction of how someone that has grown up in those kind of circles, despite being the black (white? ahah) sheep of such a family, is still steeped in the ideals and social mores that are integral to their traditions and upbringing.
The Blacks' bigotry and absolute conviction in their own superiority makes them often dislikable but fascinating: in a family where the only moral law is "our own blood and magic above all else" how does bigotry manifest? What does it take to grasp freedom and truly break off those bonds of loyalty, twisted love and trauma? And is it even possible? How can you even begin to relate to other people when you have tangible proof that your own blood and magic is superior to that of almost anyone else? How do you navigate the world when the only people that can truly understand you, your past and your upbringing cut you off?
While the Blacks are undeniably a specific flavour of fucked up, none of the other pureblood families are horrified or disgusted by them, not even the ones we'd consider Light-aligned. The divide between magical and muggle culture is starker than ever and really shines through in the difficulties in James and Lily's "mixed culture" marriage between the scion of a noble pureblood house and a headstrong, brilliant muggleborn witch. This depiction goes against their typical portrayal as a perfect match and gives more depth to the cultural divide in the wizarding world.
All the relationships among the Marauders are far from idyllic and I especially loved how the Author depicted the strained and progressively more frayed friendship between Remus and Sirius: despite how it hurt my Wolfstar shipper heart, all their interactions read as perfectly in character with what we know of these two in the books, with how they evolve and react to events in the fic, and with Sirius's evolving internal monologue.
Peter is an unassuming gem in this story. I have often trouble reconciling how someone that could be such an integral part of the Marauders (and consequently probably a really close, trusted and valued friend of James) could also be such a spineless coward as to immediately betray and cause the murder of not only one of his closest friends, but of also his wife and newborn son: what kind of person does it take to be and do both? This fic, to me, managed to do what the books and a lot of fics could not: create an understandable, coherent and, if not likeable, at least sympathetic portrayal of Peter.
The Author has nailed the art of depicting controversial and often misunderstood if not vilified characters in a more complex and nuanced way.
Dumbledore is neither the bumbling fool nor the moustache-twirling, conniving villain that is often depicted in fanon: here he is a refreshingly realistic and pragmatic leader whose actions are perfectly reasonable or at least understandable within the setting and power scaling of the fic.
Walburga Black is completely reworked and truly comes alive: her relationship with Sirius is still undeniably abusive but at least here we're given the picture of the family context that would produce such a dysfunctional dynamic, she is still a bigot but is far from the cartoonishly evil and cold-hearted mother that is depicted in the books. The story doesn't shy away from the cruel, dark and often evil traits of Voldemort but somehow still manages to capture the shrivelled remains of a person that are buried very, very deep into Voldemort's persona, slowly unearthing shards of a Tom Riddle still surprisingly entrenched in his own humanity, which bleeds through in the most unexpected ways and slowly creeps up on Sirius and the reader during the months and years in which the story unravels: I always somewhat felt bad for Tom Riddle and the chances he never had, but I never expected to be devastated by the way Voldemort still carries those long faded scars; the Author truly succeeds in making the reader sympathise with the Dark Lord while still keeping him in character as the Dark Lord.
This fanfiction is an original and intriguing look in the dynamics of the Black family and the inner workings of Voldemort's mind, with a fresh take on the Marauders' relationships with each other and the way prejudices and cultural clash manifest in the wizarding world, all through the eyes of a Sirius Black that is both the perfect embodiment of a pureblood prince and a rebel straining to escape the pureblood pretence.

Love only exists between persons of the same nature.
Of all the great and powerful ideas among those words, not a single sentence had moved Albus as this. Because this felt as though it was written just for him.
”It's perfect."
Gellert gazed at him, one eyebrow cocked, from his desk where he was busy inking down the next chapter.
Albus smiled and tossed the manuscript back on the table. "It's the rest I don't agree with. I simply cannot get behind that American rule."
Gellert laughed loudly. "You wish to marry a Muggle, Albus? There is something you're not telling me, yes?"
Albus tipped his head sideways, growing weary of his friend always missing the point. "Oh, I don't know. I feel some sympathy with those who are not allowed to love freely." Gellert's gaze became fixed on the floor before his eyes roamed up to take in Albus' face. Albus placed his hands on his stomach and sighed gently. "I can only imagine what it's like not having the freedom to walk hand in hand with my love, or marry them, or kiss them in the street."
There was a long pause. Then, seriously, "What are you talking about, Albus?"
"I think you know."

This is one of the first Hunger Games fics I ever read.
Devastating but perfectly compatible with what we know of Panem and the Capitol; really makes you appreciate how things turned out in canon.
The Haymitch and Katniss scene is both horrifying and perfectly understandable from Katniss' very limited freedom of choice and feels like something she actually would do if forced in this horrible lose-lose situation. I feel like you managed to make what they do necessary and understandable without romanticising it and conveying how fucked up it is that this is genuinely Katniss best course of action.
Devastating and bleak, with the only hope and silver lining to be found in human relationships and mutual acknowledgement of each other's struggles.
To this day, haunting.
Loved it to bits. -

Bookmarker's Notes
I loved this fic.
I feel like the strongest points of this fic are the world building and Sirius and Harry's relationship.
I really liked the house-magic lore and in general the inner workings of the Wizengamot as a political and magical body.
Harry finally gets the father figure he always deserved in the books (one that finally doesn't die suddenly and violently!!) and learns to trust Sirius and rely on him, finally getting a safe space to grow both into himself, as a wizard and as a young man, and into his new role as Lord and Heir of an ancient and noble house.
The bond between Harry and Sirius is extremely warm and supportive to both of them and it's really satisfying seeing Sirius stepping back into the Wizengamot and pureblood world that he hated as youth and turning everything on its head for the sake of his godson.I also like that while Harry's circle of friends definitely grows a lot larger he still values and trusts his oldest friends, Ron and Hermione, a lot, unlike what happens in many other fics (which is perfectly fine but just not usually to my style and liking).
I don't care too much for the Harry and Hermione's romance but I also don't really mind it, especially as they are so busy and so young that it doesn't amount to a lot of story space... it's mostly like Hermione became an even closer platonic friend for most of the time. The only thing I feel is missing from the fic is more Wolfstar and queer rep; mind you it's not an actual problem, it's just my personal preference: this fic plus Wolfstar would have probably made me ascend to the 9th circle of heaven while I only reached the 7th without it lol
You really made me both hate and pity Barty Crouch Jr. a lot: hate definitely outweighs any pity I might have for him (especially after what he did to Hannah) but who doesn't feel some sympathy for the devil from time to time? You really made it apparent how unwell he truly is without making any excuse for his criminal and dangerous behaviour. He really stands out a lot when compared to the books especially because of how personal his villainy is to our beloved main characters: with Bellatrix out of the game early on, he becomes this story's Bellatrix in a way, certainly in madness, cruelty and magical power, with a dash of Draco and Severus in the way he feels almost doomed by his family history to end up the way he does.
What can I say? This fic is a power fantasy but an extremely well made one that hits all the spots without making the ultimate victory too easy: Harry is op and his faction has A LOT of resources but the villains always manage to be a step ahead and pose a realistic threat to our heroes.
Definitely worth a read (I'm now on my third reread of the story lol) -

Bookmarker's Notes
This is, hands down, the most creative, most complex, most understandable and genuinely interesting magic world building I've ever seen in any Harry Potter fanfiction, and I have read quite a few! And it ranks pretty high in world building for me even when considering original fiction!
The spells you created feel simple and doable, as in they don't require the caster to have an immense innate power, but they are, nonetheless, extremely effective, dangerous and duel-ending like nothing I've ever seen.
My favourite is the one that curls the target's eyelashes inward towards the eye, effectively greatly inconveniencing them and even blinding them, which might seems silly but is a great non-violent way to almost certainly manage to hit your enemy with a good stunner, expelliarmus or petrificus totalus.
So why don't you just hit them directly with the more lethal spell? Isn't it faster? Yes obviously, but the new spell, being a novelty in the wizarding world, isn't as easily preventable and can catch foes off guard, plus the only person to know the counter spell is the Arithmancer herself, our dear Hermione.
This enormous spell-arsenal makes Hermione extremely powerful without actually disrupting the canon power scaling.I also dabble in maths so I felt I could follow a lot of Hermione's studies (mind you I'm just an amateur but what I mean to say is that I didn't feel completely lost lol).
I also loved, loved, loved everything that had to do with rune magic, dementors, ley lines and the matter of the growing threat of muggle technology to the secrecy of the wizarding world.
I feel like you manage to answer and find solutions to some of the most illogical or underdeveloped parts of the wizarding world, and, every time, you do it in a way that is both creative, satisfying and surprising! I feel like this is one of the few truly original world building in Harry Potter fanfiction.
When you read this fic and think "Nothing can surprise me anymore" that's when a new amazing thing is right around the corner, and it happens every time :)
Honestly I ran through this story, I inhaled it, and I wish I could read it once again without knowing what you would come up with because everything in this is great!! E-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g

I loved the essay style prose and the few but meaningful glances we get of a different world.
I loved the slow fusion of magic and technology, the difficulty in telling which is which until the two become so blended together to the point of being indistinguishable. -

Summary
Something ticked in Paul’s mind as the familiar words washed through him. When he looked at John, his friend was already looking at him. And suddenly, it all became clear: He remembered having that conversation more than 50 years ago. He remembered it too well.
He had been thinking about it for years, wondering what he should have understood, how he should have reacted. If it was as meaningful as it had felt or if his memory had just romanticized it.
“I don’t think a love like that obeys to any rules,” John went on, unaware of Paul’s agitation. “It’s not something that humans have created, not like a societal thing. It’s deeper than that, and that’s what some people are afraid of I guess, because they can’t control it. Whatever laws they create, they can never control it. A white lad will fall in love with a black girl.” He paused. “A lad with another lad. You know.”

Bookmarker's Notes
This fic singlehandedly sent me down a Beatles rabbit hole.
I read this fic with my only knowledge of them being from my childhood, during which my father (who is of an age to be an original Beatles fanboy) basically turned them into the soundtrack of my life. I always liked their music without being meaningfully passionate towards the Beatles as a band or as personalities... sure I liked most of their music and really loved a song here and there, but that's normal, right? After this fic I relistened to their entire discography in chronological order, taking breaks only between an album and the next; I combed through the lyrics of their songs; watched a bunch of documentaries (both movies, miniseries and online videos); went over the history and progression of their interpersonal relationships; learned a bunch of stuff about Brian Epstein, George Martin and Eric Clapton amongst others; dived deep into Beatles memes and lore; informed myself on the Paul is dead conspiracy; did the same for the McLennon conspiracy and slowly went through the stages of "huh that's interesting sure but clearly it's all speculation" to "that's kinda sus but they were really good friends" to "wellll...I mean I never thought and said this kind of stuff about my friends" to "okay, in WHAT situation would you even say THAT" to "y'know it actually is kinda possible that their feelings were more than platonic" to "McLennon amirite (ironic)" to "okay I think it's unrequited love on John's part but 'Paul-immovable-heterosexuality-McCartney' simply didn't reciprocate" to full on tinfoil proud McLennon truther.
You did it. I fully lost my sanity lolAll jokes aside I really loved this story!
I'm a sucker for historically accurate fiction and this was great: it truly felt like we were immersed in the 60s and I liked how Paul, despite having actually already lived through those times, at first had an hard time getting used to life in the past without some of our modern commodities.
I also loved how Paul doesn't simply magically accept and move on from having lost all his family but keeps actually thinking about it and it keeps affecting him till the end of the story.I really liked how he tried to fix and improve his relationships with all the members of the band in the past and how you can truly see and understand the way that he thinks and feels: it's really believable, especially the way his flaws don't simply disappear even when he learns to address them and work around them; it feels very true to life, in the way sometimes you take one step forward just to take two steps back and you sometimes fall in all the same tricks despite learning to see them coming.
I also really like how clearly your Paul is so often in his own head and is an unreliable narrator, because you get the feel that all the other characters have lives and feelings of their own and what Paul sees is just a limited perception filtered through his own biases, despite the foreknowledge he has from the future.
The relationship between John and Paul builds up really nicely; it's a real slow burn but it all feels earned and you never get the feeling of wasting time just for the sake of it.
The conflict feels deserved and well thought out and the evolution of the relationship feels realistic with the point at which both Paul and John are at, both with themselves and each other: Paul is a bit stuck in his ways and isn't often ready to discover new things about himself, but it makes sense for a mentally 77 years old dude with a well solidified self-image, and John has a lot of the insecurities of youth and the insecurities that come from the precarious time-travel situation; everything is also ulteriorly complicated by this being the 60s, with its less than stellar record on gay and civil rights. One of the things I liked the most in this fic is the implication that some of the Beatles most iconic songs had references to this unrequited (in the original timeline) love story; once Paul realises this, he has to grapple with the fact that John's feelings ran deep for multiple years and he never realised how his original-timeline-John felt and how maybe Paul himself also had feelings that ran deeper than he realised.
All in all it's really well thought out and apparent that Paul has lived a full life and looks at this stretch of years in front of him with an eye always in the once-was that now never-will-be.I really loved this fic and I'm really grateful that reading this led me to rediscover the Beatles and their music from a more mature point of view which gave me a greater appreciation for their music.
Absolutely recommended :) -
