Summary
Arthur's always been trying to be perfect. A perfect son, a perfect knight, a perfect prince. He was always trying to be perfect in the hope that he would be loved. Even when he's haunted by the people he's killed, even when he longingly stares at men when he should be focused on women. He's doing his best to keep the perfect facade, to keep everything together.
And then Merlin came. And Arthur's hopes of keeping it together are immediately dashed.
It's not like he likes him or anything...right?

Summary
It all starts with a silly deal Merlin makes up with Arthur after another failed date. The deal is simple: if they're still single when they're forty, they'll get married.
From there, it gets much more complicated.
From moving away, to confusing feelings, to heartbreaks galore, Arthur and Merlin traverse through adulthood searching for 'the one,' only to realize that perhaps, they had already found it after all.

This was supposed to be a break from university.

The holiday season had brought out every single Scrooge and Grinch to the particular establishment that Merlin worked in, and he was thinking of summoning some kind of spirit to scare them all off.
Or just closing up early. It was Christmas Eve. A couple of minutes ago, he’d seen his manager, Jennifer, sneak off into the back room where she kept her spiked eggnog stashed, and he doubted she was going to come out any time soon to help him deal with the influx of people who thought Christmas Eve was the perfect time to do last-minute shopping and drop in for coffee.
The line snaking out the front door was longer than a popcorn Christmas tree garland.
Merlin sighed. It looked like it was going to be another long day of working for him, with no end in sight.
Just… great.

Merlin and Arthur bungle up their coffee shop during a busy shift on Christmas Eve and get interesting reviews from different Merlin characters.

Summary
Merlin was beyond tired of it all. He just wanted one moment where… it could be just him. Just him and Arthur, just the two of them, without the rest of the world interfering.
But alas, Merlin was no normal person and neither was Arthur, and the chances of them having a regular day were almost as likely as Uther deciding to stop hating magic.
So, he walked into Arthur’s room, ready for more late night chores, a slight slump in his posture. To anyone else, it would seem as if he was perfectly fine, usual Merlin just slightly tired from a long day’s work.
But Merlin knew it was a bit more than that.
And so did Arthur, apparently, because when he stumbled in, he found the idiot sitting casually behind his desk, an air of amusement and playfulness surrounding him, a teasing grin forming on his stupid, stupid (handsome) face.

Merlin's had a long day, so Arthur takes care of him.

Summary
Before he could think of a better plan, before his brain could catch up with his mouth, his hand was reaching out and muttering a spell, blowing the sorcerers back from their attack. They looked to be attempting to block his magic, but with another spell, he was conjuring a blistering wind, forcing them away lest they wished to meet their demise.
He took a deep breath, allowing himself a moment to himself before he acknowledged the stares his friends were giving him.
But it wouldn’t matter, for the moment he tried to turn towards them, he was falling to the ground once more, the extent of his injuries finally taking their toll on him.
He heard whispers of panic, a terrified, “Merlin!”, before he finally blacked out.

Summary
For once in his life, he wished he was someone else. Someone who lived a peaceful, normal, easy life.
But he knew that wishes would do him no good and that fruitless imaginations would lead him nowhere, and so he sighed as he opened the door to his and Arthur’s chambers, expecting the king to be asleep.
So he was shocked when he found that he wasn’t asleep, but instead sitting at his desk with a dinner for two on the table, and candles lit all around it.

Merlin never thought that after becoming the Court Sorcerer and deciding to accept Arthur's courtship, that things would be simple.
But after a rough day, Merlin's feeling more tired than ever.

Summary
When Merlin met Arthur, it felt… like just another regular day.
His friends from his psychology class had introduced him to their other friend, Arthur, who was studying computer science and had blond hair and blue eyes, and Merlin thought that it was just another small moment in his rather boring life.
Sure, he thought he was handsome. Merlin had eyes, after all.
But he never thought he would see him after that day. So, in his mind, it had seemed like a closed book on a truly unremarkable event.
And then Arthur had transferred to his math class and everything had gone to shit.
Merlin had quickly realized the closed book he had been so sure of was now wide open, and the moment that he had thought was insignificant was anything but.
The truth of the matter was this:
Merlin was most definitely, absolutely, screwed.

Merlin's alright with continuously pining over Arthur, until the day he dies. But, with the help of Gwen, he might just have the confidence to ask the man he likes out on a date.

Summary
He gulped, licking his lips. He had revealed his magic to him two weeks ago and up until that point, the two hadn’t spoken to one another. Arthur had requested not to see him for that time, asking that he allow him some space, which Merlin had understood completely.
It was a lot to learn, especially for a man who spent his entire life believing in one truth, now realizing it was indeed false.
But still, it had been a painstakingly long two weeks, with Merlin unwilling to get out of bed, too busy agonizing over his reveal and Arthur’s possible reactions. He imagined the king asking him to leave Camelot, of his best friend throwing him in the dungeons with the threat of execution. He imagined Arthur asking Gaius about the intricacies of magic, of Arthur staring at the law banning sorcery and wondering whether or not to put an end to it.
But in all of his worries, all of the thoughts that had been wrestling in his mind, he could never have imagined this.Series
