Summary
“Cat,” Bourquey says behind him, french tinged high pitched in wary confusion.
“What?” Wyatt responds, his own french rusty and grating. He turns towards the sliding glass door, his rumbled bed behind Bourquey who is holding up a solid black cat with a bland face. Bourquey wiggles the cat at him by the scruff and Wyatt laughs as it seems to flatten its brows at the treatment. He’s surprised it doesn’t attack, but the cat has the disposition of someone used to foul treatment.
“Why,” Bourquey sighs, deeply put upon, “is Roope’s cat in our home?” -

He watches Shane process his words. Sees the exact moment he registers exactly what that means, and then watches him process more emotions than Ilya thinks one body should be able to hold.
“No,” Shane says, soft but sure. “I wouldn’t. I couldn’t.”
