Summary
This was not the face of a bad morning.
Something, or someone, had completely smothered Mel's spark.
All of Frank’s priorities reshuffled in an instant. Everyone in this hospital was an idiot if they didn't realize how great of a doctor she was, and how vital it was to keep her from burning out.
Frank attempted a smile. He waved, bracelet rustling on his wrist, feet glued to his spot across the room.
Mel removed a hand from her pocket to wave back at him, cocking her head to the side and squinting, as if he was a mirage in the desert.
No broad smile, and certainly not an ecstatic “You're here!” like last time, something he'd secretly craved. But it was something. Acknowledgement that she didn't hate him, at least.

Summary
On that first day back, July 4th of all possible days, he was sure that he’d been done for -- that he would never again be able to look his coworkers in the eye. He’d half considered not even showing up in the first place but knowing how many hoops he’d suspected Robby had jumped through and how many strings he'd pulled to allow him back, he'd thought better of it.
And yeah, as he’d suspected, that had been the case with some people, but not with Mel, never with Mel. She’d simply beamed at him across central shortly after he got done with HR, like his presence alone was the best thing she'd ever seen come through the doors of PTMC, and after a heart to heart on the roof during the annual fireworks and another talk about the importance and necessity of sensitive people in a place like emergency medicine (her giving it to him this time), that had been that.
She’d been his best friend ever since.
Now, as they stand in the middle of Giant Eagle, Frank thinks he’s never seen the woman in front of him before, thinks that hell, maybe he doesn’t really know her at all.

Summary
Dennis clasps his hands together, bowing his head. He asks God for forgiveness for what he’s about to do, and for not praying as often as he should—for not going to church and for sleeping with men to not freeze to death in the winter.
“Whitaker?” He startles so hard he nearly falls off the edge. It’s Robby. “What are you doing here?”
“Just sitting.”
“How about you scoot back a little? Sit behind the railing instead. It’s there for a reason, you know.” There’s something careful in his voice. Dennis hates that. Robby should still be angry with him, he should be screaming and cursing.

Robby pulls a face. “Remind me why I ever thought confiding in you was a good idea?”
Jack laughs. “You didn’t confide in me. I deduced it because I have eyes, and you didn’t deny it when I asked. I’m more curious why no one else seems to have picked up on your miserable yearning.”

Summary
Who even covers their mark if it’s that prominent anyways? Jack's mom always said if your mark isn’t well hidden it’s a sign that your match loves you more. It was a dig at him, with his hidden script she’d hated so much.
It hurts Jack to see someone deny love in such a blatant way. What’s so good about you Michael Robinavitch that you don’t want to be matched?

Summary
There was another thing. Something other than anger that lurked in the shadows of Jack’s mind, but it had been there for years, so there was no sense trying to make it make sense now. There was a yawning chasm, so deep and dark he didn’t dare try to see the bottom. It had a gravity to it. It drew him forward. If he looked right at it, he’d fall straight in. So, instead, Jack looked away. He let the feeling fade back into the background where it always lay.

Jack finds Robby suffering from a dangerously high fever, and he doesn't have any feelings about it whatsover. He stays objective, always. He doesn't worry at all...

Summary
A lot of workplaces saw a vampire feeding from a coworker similar to people dating. Therefore, similar regulations. Nothing really enforced on a federal or state level. In the PTMC, those regulations weren’t common. Then again, in the whole hospital, Dennis was one of two vampires. And the other had a blood letter. Dennis just had weird ass dive bars.

Summary
"Dennis Whitaker was a vampire. Sort of. If it mattered, he was pretty sure he was considered a vampire’s “spawn” rather than a full-fledged one. But that didn’t change the fact that a short month after his rotation at the PTMC’s Emergency Department began, he had been turned."
When Dennis can no longer afford to buy medication to relieve his bloodlust, his unfortunate situation comes to light much to the dismay of Dr. Robby, who has spent the last year in search of a vampire terrorizing Pittsburgh with his other-half, Jack Abbot.

Summary
She didn’t catch it before, and she lost someone she loved. Santos would have to live with that guilt for the rest of her life. No way in hell would she let it happen twice.
Abbot glanced at her again, and this time Santos stared him down.
Good fucking luck with that, asshole.
He was trapped on this bitch of an earth just like the rest of them. Trinity was going to make damn sure of it.
...
When Santos becomes convinced that Abbot has moved from passively suicidal to active suicide risk, she takes matters into her own hands. She refuses to see another friend die.

Summary
Three months of intensive rehabilitation and the promise of staying clean—as if he had been dirty before, crusted over by filth and immorality—had Frank standing in front of the Center with one hand on his backpack strap and one hand holding up a phone to his ear. The taxi was a few minutes out, and Frank let his eyes unfocus for a while, letting his brain drift above himself in a nice and comfortable cloud of dissociation before the yellow car slowed to a stop before him.

Summary
If anyone asked, Robby could easily tell the story with a lovesick smile and eyes focused only on the younger man as if he hung the moon and stars himself. A rough hand caressing his arm before intertwining their fingers.
“It was almost like fate.” He would say, awe in his tone, still surprised at how this man chose to be with him.
If anyone asked Dennis, he would look at you with furrowed eyebrows and a slowly reddening face as he’d reply, “What do you mean? Dr. Robby and I aren’t dating.”
