Changeling:
A European myth, most common across the United Kingdom, in which disguised fairfolk (“changelings”) are swapped with human children. Fairies would become jealous of good, obedient human offsprings and steal the children away for themselves to raise, leaving behind fey children that behaved oddly and often got into trouble.
In modern day, psychologists theorize that this myth arose to explain all sorts of unexpected diversities in children, including ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) amongst young children, whose parents didn't quite understand why their child acted so differently from the others. -
