Rumi had her head buried into her hands, shaking it slowly.
She looked half dead from embarrassment.
Also half dead from the exhaustion of grinding against a plushie to get herself off.
Zoey gasped. “Rums!” She ran over to the bed, crawling on it, reaching under the blanket. “You killed him!” It was the turtle stuffie, the one that was now flattened.

Finally, Zoey blurted it out, voice soft but sharp:
“Have you ever thought of… something besides monogamy?”
Mira’s thumb stilled on the screen. She looked up, slow. “…What?”
Zoey’s hands twisted in her lap. “Like—not open relationships. Just… not just one person. Have you ever thought about being with more than one person and it still being okay?”
She wasn’t looking at Mira. Her voice was tight, like it hurt to speak. Mira watched her with a furrowed brow, still quiet.
“I feel so guilty all the time. Because I love you, Mira. I love you, and this doesn’t change that, but I see her and I want to make her smile and I want her to hold my hand and I think she’s beautiful and weird and sweet and I—”
She finally looked up, tears shining in her eyes.
“I think I ruined us. And I’m so sorry.”
Mira just stared at her. Wide-eyed. Silent.
Zoey’s heart dropped. “Say something.”
Mira exhaled like she’d been holding her breath for a month.
Then she visibly deflated—shoulders dropping, head tilting back against the wall—and let out a quiet, choked laugh.
“…Oh thank god.”

She wanted to kiss the furrow between Zoey’s brows, pull her bottom lip out from the hold of her teeth, map a constellation across her freckles with her mouth and reassure her that no, Zoey, you could never hurt me, not even the gods could imagine a world where you could hurt me.

Zoey flushes pink, her eyes going bright. Instead of responding, she leans into Rumi and kisses her shoulder. “Me, too,” she says into the skin there.
“You’re what?” Mira asks, filling the room with steam from her way-too-hot shower.
“Happy!”
Mira’s mouth does that funny thing that it does when she can’t decide if she wants to smile or cry; she lands on smiling, eyes shining.

Zoey opened her eyes to a familiar face. Mira was in front of her, snoring softly, one arm draped loosely around her waist. She smiled, already sinking back into the warmth of sleep. But as she shifted slightly, she became very aware of another body pressed against her back.
She sat up quickly, freaking out. Rumi was there too. Panic prickled at the edge of her thoughts as fragments from the night before slammed into her. The taste of alcohol and bile rose up her throat. She kissed Rumi, Mira also kissed Rumi. And everything’s fine, she reasoned. They’re laying down together in their bed the next morning, and they all kissed, and it’s fine.
Zoey threw up in the bathroom.
