Summary
Welcome to Ketterdam University, where six chaotic students navigate the treacherous world of academia, activism, and a few too many illegal schemes. Kaz Brekker, a business major with a talent for strategy, has a plan to take down Dean Jarl Brum, a corrupt administrator hiking tuition and covering up something much worse. With the help of his reluctant yet equally unhinged friends—a theater kid with a gambling problem (Jesper), a chemistry genius with a knack for explosions (Wylan), a law-bound acrobat with a blade collection (Inej), a future doctor with an appetite for trouble (Nina), and a philosophy major/former cult member/hockey player (Matthias)—they embark on a series of heists, hacks, and high-stakes cons to expose the university’s secrets.
Between all the pining, panic-inducing exams, and ethically questionable break-ins, the gang finds themselves entangled in something much bigger than they expected. But if there’s one thing they’re good at, it’s making bad decisions work.
Chapters labeled A are the messaging, chapters labeled B are real life interactions. You don’t need to read both parts to understand, but it makes a whole lot more sense! A&B will update together every time I update.

Wylan went into the meeting with a new family and came out alone. Again. But it’s nothing he couldn’t handle right? He lived his life after his mother died alone so it won’t be hard. As long as Van Eck and the crows can just leave him alone after being the ones to do this.
The crows find out about Wylans father and things are assumed and guilt and shame are felt by all.

Wylan splits his time evenly between his chemistry degree and his work at Ketterdam University's Disablity Support Office. The job doesn't pay much, and sometimes the work is mind-numbingly dull, but he gets to give people the help they need and deserve. The help he'd always wanted growing up.

Above Wylan’s bony left ankle, metal gleams: a heavy iron manacle, welded to a long chain of links that snake behind him, clattering on the floor as he moves.
Jesper watches it, mouth open as everything he’d assumed shatters and comes back together in a new shape. “You’re a prisoner!” he blurts out.
Wylan twists sharply to look at him, face creased in a familiar aggravated scowl. “Are you an idiot?” he demands. “The locked door wasn’t a clue?”
There are new weapons appearing in the Barrel. Kaz sends Jesper undercover to find out where they’re coming from. Jesper finds something else entirely.

Jesper blinked at the text, feeling the knot form in his stomach once more. What if it was all going to be terribly awkward? What if Wylan didn't really want to see him? What if their dynamic had completely changed? What if-
"Jes!"
Jesper whirled around to see Wylan exiting the building with the brightest grin on his face and waving like a madman. Jesper grinned, feeling the nerves dissolve into nothing because Wylan was here, and he loved Wylan and he would get to hold him again.

“I know,” Wylan says plainly, with a small shrug. “It’s classic me. Came to college and got pretty.”
Jesper laughs, although he’s not fully sure why. It just feels like such a Wylan response to give, whatever that could mean; a little self-deprecating, and also gesturing to the understanding—the knowledge—that they have of each other. Is it classic Wylan, to do this? Only Jesper would be able to tell. Only they could understand each other like this, even now.

Jesper and Wylan aren’t friends in school, but they certainly aren’t strangers, no matter how much they try to act like it. In university, their lives continue to weave in and out of one another’s, pushing and pulling each other through their insecurities, pasts, and other relationships. Wylan sucks in a breath, steeling himself and getting his order right in his head before opening the door. The sound of the door must have gotten Jesper’s attention, because he looks up from the machine behind the counter and waves.
“Wylan! Hey, you're back,” he says, grinning at Wylan as if he truly is happy to see him. “Nina, look–” he taps her on the shoulder as Wylan walks over.
Nina, who has just finished serving a customer, swats Jesper’s hand away lightly. “Yes, yes, I see him,” she says with an exasperated eyeroll, making eye contact with Wylan afterwards. She smiles at him. “Hey Wylan, what took you so long– I was stuck with only Jesper for conversation for like four days– it takes its toll on a person.”
Wylan, laughing at Jesper’s feigned offence, responds. “I’m sure he’s lovely company to have.”
“See! I am lovely.” he says to Nina, clearly proud of himself

Jesper grinned, letting his hand drop from the geldings neck. He rested his arm on the handle of his revolver, not missing the way Wylan tracked the movement with hungry eyes.
"I don't know 'bout that," he drawled, forcing Wylan's eyes too look back up at him, "why not save the horse and ride the cowboy instead?" He gestured at himself helpfully.
Wylan's eyes went dark, pushing off from where he was leaning against the stable door. "You're ridiculous," he muttered, grabbing hold of the lapels of Jesper’s chequered shirt.
He grinned, devilish, sharp, utterly delighted by the turn of events, before he found himself being manhandled onto an overturned feed trough.
Well. Fuck.
OR
Jesper's untimely robbery of some random house lands him with *far* more then expected.
The problem? Well there isn't one, not until he gets driven out of the town by angry debt collectors and the same person he tried to rob and instead ended up fucking is forced to go with him.
Now they have to meander their way through the Wild West, dodging bullets and old enemies and their inevitable feelings.
