“Surprised to see me?” Wilbur Craft stares down at him with brown eyes laced with a sickening green. “Because I can say, I’m surprised to see you.”
He looks just like the giant paintings of him up in the manor halls. Just crazier and more unkempt. Older too. There are dark bags under his eyes that age him decades. But despite that, his face isn’t one that Tommy would easily forget.
It’s Wilbur. A broken laugh bubbles out of his throat. It's actually him.

Summary
It was the water. Phil can still swear on it. It had to have been the water. He knows it as he races down the apartment complex’s stairs, a backpack on his shoulders and a crossbody bag clutched in his hands. The sirens are blaring in his ears, they are a pair of fingers digging into his temples; rolling thunders never ceasing. Outside, the orange blaze of fire makes him want to lock himself inside. He can't, he knows he can't. If he does, he dies. He needs to get away.
He has two toddlers, and they are clinging to his sleeves as they run, adjusting to the sudden onslaught of noise. It’s all he can hear. Crying, screaming, the thump of his boots against the ground, gunshots, fire crackling. One of them is asking questions, the other is gently shushing him and telling him Dad needs to focus. Phil is grateful for that, at least.

We love you Wilbur!The changeling broke into more tears as the phantom voices of blue-eyed drones echoed through his thoughts. The sounds of their buzzing wings haunting him. The faint, barely existent touch of their claws trying to pull him into the hive, into their embrace.
His instincts were getting out of control...he can't keep doing this...
A sob escaped his chest, ugly and twisted with the buzzing echo of his inhuman voice.
There was a knock on the door, "Wilbur? Are you alright? I felt you getting up earlier."
The changeling cast a desperate glance at his reflection in the mirror.

Summary
Tommy had watched the man enter from his room upstairs, looking out the window in curiosity. He could hear other children all screaming loudly about the fact someone clearly rich showed up at their little orphanage.
Tommy decided not to get his hopes up. No one wanted him anyway. No one wanted a hybrid. The other kids made sure the 6-year-old bunny knew that. So, Tommy stayed in his room, ears perked and eavesdropping on the kids outside. He couldn’t hear the man or Miss Sandra, but he knew they had entered the office.
He’d probably hear about the lucky child from the other screaming children.
Currently, they were whispering about how that man fit the description of the old Gothic mansion’s owner. It was a bit of a local legend, sitting just on the outskirts of town. The man that lived inside was a hermit, a large fence surrounding the whole perimeter to avoid trespassers. The man himself typically only came out at night, avoiding the daylight like a plague.
His gothic style choices certainly added to the legend that the man was secretly a vampire.
Or, Vampire (?) Wilbur adopts hybrid Tommy. Tommy believes he is only there to be a blood bag.

Summary
A soft golden light began to grow where his hand rested on the fur, glowing brighter as Wilbur closed his eyes and focused. The glow held steady for a moment, before Wilbur sighed and pulled his hand away. The light vanished, revealing the runt with three well-healed scars along its side.
The piglet snorted, poking at Wilbur with its tiny snout, no longer in pain and now demanding more pets. With a chuckle, the boy scooped him up, cuddling the runt to his chest and pressing a kiss to its head. Wilbur moved to the open stall and dropped to sit beside the sow. The piglets shifted to give him room before dogpiling on his lap, sniffing their healed sibling curiously. The sow grunted something, and Wilbur lifted a hand to pat her tiredly on the head. The sow snorted, letting the child rest against her side. The piglets settled down as well, lying over his legs, pressing against the runt, and soon the lot of them were asleep. Phil took a silent step away, the blood drained from his face. He knew what he'd seen, what he'd felt, when Wilbur used magic (magic!) to heal the runt. That had been - but it couldn't be, he would have noticed, wouldn't he?
Wouldn't he know if his son was replaced by a changeling?

Mr. George told him that 'words could change the world,' with that weird all-knowing gleam in his eye. The mage had told him the story of a war that had stopped six years before, the year Tommy had been born.
"The country of L'Manberg was at war with the Antarctic Empire. The Prince of L'Manberg, a boy named Soot, wrote a letter to the emperors of the Empire, but nobody would deliver it for him. So he traveled to the capital himself and handed it to Emperor Philza, begging for the war to stop in order to save his people."
King Exd'i, who had stopped by the library to pick up a book, snorted derisively from behind a nearby shelf. Tommy sunk into his seat as the man approached.
"Do you know what happened to Prince Soot, Theseus?" The king asked, looming over the table.
"No, sir." Tommy didn't look up from his lap.
A cruel smile crossed the king's face. "He delivered the letter, and Emperor Philza agreed to stop the war, in exchange for the life of the young prince. And then once Soot was kneeling, headless, on his throne room floor, the Empire took over L'Manberg anyway. Words solve nothing, Theseus. Only actions matter."
