I lived with this hunger long before the Hail Mary. This is nothing new. I’m fine.
Right up until Rocky asks another question.
“When last time you touch other human person skin, question?”
Oh. Oh no. “When I… a few days after I first woke up here.”
Rocky starts to relax for a split second, but then tightens when something occurs to him.
“Grace crewmates dead when you wake up. You said this, statement. You not even know your own name, remember nothing, see dead bodies, confirm?”
I nod, because if I open my mouth I will gag.
“When last time Grace touch ALIVE human person, question.”
I swallow thickly. I don’t answer aloud because I know Rocky can hear the hitch in my breath. My stomach churns with fresh bile. He senses my vital signs tick over into stress patterns and goes very, very still again.
“Grace. When last time, question.”
I clench my jaw so hard my temples ache, and beg him with my eyes to just stop.
“Grace. Please say not when… when Evil Stratt humans put you to sleep.”
I can taste grass.

Except time keeps resetting whenever he dies, he can’t get out no matter what he does — and there’s something hiding in the basement of the Pizzaplex that might be connected to the weird bunny lady that’s been running around. He’s way in over his head here, isn’t he?

Rocky. I can’t put this all on the guy right now. He should be happy. We are going to Erid. We are going to save his planet.
“CBC. A complete blood count.” I answer, hoping he doesn’t ask me why.
“Purpose, question?”
Rocky, please. I’m trying to spare you right now.
Basically, Grace gets exposed to a dangerous amount of radiation during an EVA and doesn't want to tell Rocky bc of what happened to Rocky's crew <3
THIS IS A REWORKED VERSION OF "TEMPEST" - after some comments, I wanted to keep the soul of the story, but make it more scientifically plausible. While there are still probably some inaccuracies, I still hope this isn't as messy as before.

Grian has always felt he was too observant of a person. Whether that was a gift or a curse was hard to tell at times. During his University days it felt like a harsh curse inflicted on him. His ability to pick up on the slightest change of emotions and movements made him constantly paranoid and unable to make friendships.
When the first wave attacked, his curse suddenly became his greatest asset.

Grian is a survivor, and a good one at that. That is until a supply run goes wrong and he finds himself waking up in an unfamiliar place. Residing there, is a strangely scarred man who for some reason can't be read by Grian despite his best attempts.

Summary
There, in the early morning sun, stands Scar—still shirtless, his back to Grian. His wings have dried out during the night, and Grian was right, those feathers need preening—but they're still stunning. Scar’s wings are massive, his wingspan stretching out what looks like almost twice his length.
At first Grian thinks they're yellow, like a canary. There's a joke at the tip of his tongue. Then he steps closer and they shimmer golden underneath the light. Grian stares at them, fascinated.
“Damn,” he breathes out, and Scar startles and spins around. His wings get in the way and he stumbles, almost falling to the ground if it wasn’t for Grian holding him up.
“Oops,” Scar laughs sheepishly. “Hi, Grian.”
“Hi, Scar,” Grian smiles, exasperated but fond. “How are you feeling?”
“Better,” Scar says, and his wings slowly flex. “I, uh. Might have wrecked our home a bit. Thrown some furniture around. Accidentally. These are so unwieldy, I don’t know how you don’t walk around constantly knocking things over.”
“You mostly get used to it,” Grian says, amused.

Martyn had talked to plenty of high ranked people before, a few of them still way above his own rank, but this wasn’t the same.
There was something new about seeing this man, long brown hair cascading on his shoulder from so close. A man that he had only seen from afar and told to protect with his life, now standing in front of him and acknowledging his presence as more than just a soldier amongst many. The king knew his name and had personally asked for him.
And, in an instant, Martyn found himself alone in the room with the known and feared red king.

Mumbo doesn’t say anything for a moment, and Grian doesn’t look at him - until a hand gently clasps over his shoulder. “Things do change,” he starts. “We’re both growing as people, Grian, and you’re dealing with memory loss and the things the Watchers have done with you. And it’s not always going to be easy.”
“Comforting,” he mutters, and the hand tightens ever so slightly - not painfully so, just added pressure.
“It doesn’t mean it’s going to change for the worse, mate.” Mumbo squeezes his shoulder once more, before letting go.
Or: Grian and Mumbo have finally been reunited after being torn apart - but they have a lot to learn after almost three years of being separated, and Grian has to figure out just where his place is among the Hermits.
